5000km's or 3000miles faithfully!

Whatever comes first.

I go 3,000 or whenever I feel guilty about how much soot I've put in there, whichever comes first!

(a bypass filtration system is on the to do list for this fall!)

We have oil analysis equipment at work. I did tests on Delo 15w-40 every thousand miles up to 15k, oil was still good to go at 15k. I change at around 10k.

You guys changing at 3k or even 5k are wasting your money. Dirty looking oil doesn't mean anything, it's just the nature of the diesel beast.

Even on older rigs where 5k regular and 3k severe use was recommended it doesn't apply any more because motor oil properties have changed tremendously in recent years and continue to change.
Cummins isn't about to retest engines to change a couple lines in the book.

The oil industry is striving for a dino oil that will go 25k or once a year in any rig, should be available in a year or so.

I change mine when I notice oil pressure dropping slightly...

it's unscientific I know, and like I said, I'm planning a bypass filtration system, but for now, I'd rather change too often than not enough. I still make 70psi of oil pressure cruising down the highway, so whatever I've been doing has been working.

215 pump, 370 injectors, AFC housing/wheel full forward, flat plate WAY forward, and a pig of a turbo that doesn't really start happening till 2000rpm = LOTS of smoke.

10,000 miles with oil sampling.....never even use 1 quart of oil between changes

I screwed up last oil change.....I never changed oil.....went 20,000 miles but the oil sample was good

Oil and Filters are cheap preventative maintenance.....but oil samples give you details about whats happening inside the motor.....many times with a oil sample history you'll see a problem before it happens

Ya 3000k would be way to soon. 10k mile mark is when she gets new oil and filter. Oil sampling confirms that it's good to go and you know how well your engine is operating.

Infidel, thats a valuable piece if info. Ive been changing my Delo at around 5k...I may have to modify my maintenance schedule. Do you change your oil filter @ 5k???

It seem like the guys changing at 3k are really wasting their money.

I have always changed at 3K, but am open for the debate. I have ordered my test kit for the oil and will be curious to see what they are testing for and what the numbers equate to. The test looks pretty cheap and it will be interesting to see the results.
