You can't beat a Toyota, but their problem is that they have a poor design team, and care very little about keeping up w/ other makers in terms of size and power. I had my tacoma for 8 yrs with no trouble, but when I decided to get a new truck I couldn't bring myself to buy another because it was the same truck. No engine updates and only a new grill body wise. I loved my toyota, but I just got bored with it.

I traded in a V8 Access cab Tundra for my CTD powered Ram. My compliant about the Tundra is the cab size, it's a full size truck, but when you sit in it you are on the floor like a car. Some people think it's more comfortable, but I couldn't stand it.

 

ive seen that honda concept truck and it looks like a bubble looks cartoony....i dunno much about toyota trucks but ive always thought that if i was to get an old 4x4 beater then id get an old tacoma and abuse it

I have to say, my 4Runner is THE most reliable and economical vehicle I've ever owned for commuting.....BUT....no matter what Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Isuzu ever produces, I just can't see Americans getting rid of their "Big 3" trucks to pull horses, hay, campers, snowmobiles, atv's, etc. not to mention, my camper like many others here would crush a foreign truck It'll never happen in this country.

who will be making the diesel for toyota? that may have a lot to do with how well it will sell..... are they working on one for themselves or will it be outsourced?

 

not sure, but im sure if its going to be happening so soon it should be availabe on the net as they would need to be working on it now

 

quick search and i couldnt find any answer... it appears to me that they may bring whatever they are currently using overseas in their trucks to the us.

 

Personally I think the only good thing about the import trucks is that it keeps the other manufacturers from resting on their laurels. I will support any US company that makes a concerted effort to keep ahead of the competition. It irks me to no end to send my money to a company outside the US no matter how much they support the local economy. I feel if more of us would do that we wouldn't have any problems with jobs here. On the other hand if the US manufacturer takes advantage of my devotion to them then I will refuse to deal with them as little as possible. I had a Chevette that I bought new in 1984 that got 50+ MPG. It had an Isuzu engine in it. I purposefully bought it in lieu of the US built POS Chebby engines that weren't worth the iron they were made of.

 

I had a uncle that had a datsun/nissan with a little diesel in it, frame wound up broke in half after about 300,000 miles on it but motor and trans. still going. Brother has a little 89 Toyota 4banger 4x4 200,000 plus miles on it still running. You gotta hand it to them asians they build things to last.

I can't remember where but I think it was detroit autoworks that toyota at the rate they are growing will surpass general motors if you think about how many different brands that is pontiac, chevy,cadillac, buick, gmc, saab, hummer and I'm sure i missed one or two that's scary big
