Need one or not?

Just curious as to who actually has a diesel pickup because they actually need one to haul/tow, etc... or who has one just because they are cool!! Personally I use mine as more of a tool for the farm than a hotrod! I dont have any problem with people that just like em'. I see alot of pictures of some pretty cool rigs in subdivisions and was wonderin if most guys tow with em or not

Im definitely a 1%er.

I want a diesel for that 1% of the time that I actually need something bigger than my Nissan Frontier.
Also, I look at it like this, if Im going to get 18 to 20 mpg, I might as well have a big truck.

I also am a 1%er
However the security I feel in such a large unit also is part of the reason along with the fact that when I bought the truck in 98 I didnt want a disposable truck so I figured the CTD was the one. It wasnt untill I found this evil site that the bombing bug set in LOL

I am not sure where I fit in. It is my daily driver, my only vehicle. But I did do about 9,000 miles towing my 10,000 lb 5er in the last year.

I also ran it with the 5er around the block twice last month.

I probably dont really need mine but I do use it quite a bit to pull around some heavy stuff once in a while.

I fell in love with these trucks when I was younger. Always wanted one. Also being 6'5" I got a little cramped in my standard cab ranger. Not too many things I fit in. Also if I need it, it's here. I don't like to depend on anyone. Plus it gives me a reaon to buy more toys!

I tow 6k lbs daily and I wanted a real truck that was not afraid to do so.

I have towed up to 11k lbs on occasion and have been very happy with the results.

mine's a daily driver with odd jobs here and there..and lots of fun mainly...i originally wanted a pick-up cause the ride is comfortable and for the power...it was either an older camaro and then i figured hey i could get the same or more power out of a pick-up and actually have use for a pick-up...so then i debated what kind of pick-up and i realised that i could get the same mileage or better out of a cummins than even if i got a v6 camaro!!!...so i just kept computing things in my head and then in the end i realized that id rather pay the extra 20$/week to drive something i like and enjoy than to drive the "practical thing" like a cavalier, corrola, or whatever.....3 years later i have developped a sick psychological disease when it comes to my truck...diesel fumes will do that to ya

I got my truck for several reasons.

1. My Z-71 Chevy was pulling my 5th wheel but it struggled a little bit. The Cummins doesn't.

2. I like having a vehicle that if properly cared for will probably will see a 1/2 million to a million miles before it's time for the junkyard.

3. You can bomb this engine and get 600 plus hp out of it, and it doesn't really care. Your truck can be your "race car" as well as your truck.

4. You can average 15-17mpg or more while driving an 8000lb vehicle.

5. A BIG one for me is personal safety while driving through a metro area of 6 million people. There are a bunch of idiots on the road. And, just in case one happens to T-bone me at 50 mph with his Ferd Taurus I might just have a chance of surviving that wreck.........like 05MXDiesel did here.....

I don't need it at all. But how many people only buy the vehicle they need? If that was true, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, and Acura would all be out of business.
