Mercedes Benz Diesels???

I am interested in getting a MB diesel. I'm looking for a good value, but reliable vehicle that I don't have to sink a ton of $$$ into. Probably looking as something from the 90's. Which diesel models would be good candidates? Which ones would be good to stay away from? How risky is it to pick up a high milage car (more than 200K miles). Is it realistic to get a clean reliable W124 diesel w/ less than 150K miles for $5K? What kind of mpg can I expect out of these cars?

I like the old OM617 powered cars myself. '85 and older, they run forever and ever and ever.

Yep, my dream car would be finding a nice clean early 80's 300SD.
