Thumbs up Lucked out Yesterday Morning!

Had went to have some lab work done at our local hosiptal, and when leaving the parking lot theres a stop sign at one main entrance leaving hospital access road where you have to turn left into this half moon shaped access across the median four lane. Just as you get through access crossover all traffic is left lane turns left or goes straight, all right lane vehicles have to turn right if your in the right lane (signs, arrows everywhere marking where to turn). At the stop sign I see this car in right lane a good ways down the road so I pull out go through crossover I get straightened up and "BAM" this young girl (20 to 25 years of age) in right hand lane realizes shes in the wrong lane to go straight, so she speeds up and side swipes me trying to beat me to the signal light (sounded like a bomb went off when she hit my truck). I was talking to one of my buddy's on the Nextel two-way when she hit me. I threw my phone in the seat and turned to passenger window (her window already down) and she hollering "I had the right of way"! "I had the right way"!. "I saying lady why did you hit me you where in the right lane to turn right only". All she would say was "I had the right away"! I said ok I'll settle this right quick let me grab my phone, and call the cops out here. Well she was already out of her car as I was grabbing my phone and she said I don't have time to wait I'm late (started crawfishing on me when I said cops). She was standing there saying I don't really see any damage to your truck and my car just has a tiny little scrape above that rear wheel ( I believe she was driving a black Lexus). I get out dreading to walk around to other side to find no dents,no scrapes, nada. Her rear tire and my front tire made the impact, my tire giving her car the tiny little scrape on fender well. We where holding up traffic big time there for a bit, so I said fine if you can live with your damage my truck looks fine, but you hit me lady. She said fine I'm late and got to go. From there starving to death myself from "fasting" for the blood test, I hauled it to the local Jack N the Box to get something to eat. When I got there, I thought I might ought to get out and see if I overlooked any damage, I noticed my front center cap was missing on my wheel then, so I hauled it back to the seen of the accident (after I got a Breakfast Jack and Coke of course) and there it was laying in the ditch in perfect condition. Sure thought it might of been Friday 13th instead of the 11th.

So guys and gals watch out it's a jungle out there.

Tony

I am glad things turned out OK so far, I just hope she doesn't turn around and sue you at a later date as I have so often seen happen. As much as I hate to say it, I always call the cops anymore, you just can't be too prudent in this day and age.
Good luck

Well your right it is the best thing to do call the cops no matter what, but I believe it's over with.

I failed to mention she was a very nice looking girl, lol hope she will learn to slow down, and leave a little earlier from now on.

At the risk of sounding rude...get off the cell phone while driveing!
Part of defensive driving is being aware of other drivers screw ups!
You cant do this while talking on the phone.
Having driven motorbikes, and being very vulnerable, and working as a medic I came to the conclusion that it realy doesn't mater whose fault it is if you are dead.
(by the way I gave up on the bikes for this very reason, as I am not perfect and niether is anyone else, but dead is dead)
Once again please don't be offended, but like it or not talking on the phone may have contributed to this incident, weather it was her fault or not.
Respecfully yours...

No offense taken here Toto, but I rarely talk on the cell phone while driving myself, I would say at least 98.9% of the time off the air in my personal vehicle. I was calling the buddy to pick me up at the shop to go to the job site.

I know exactly what your referring to, getting into there conversation and not paying attention I see it every day. I do road construction and we have a big problem with people not slowing down and reading our "BIG ORANGE CONSTRUCTION AHEAD, MACHINEY AHEAD, SLOW 20MPH SIGNS". Most of the time they do when they see me in that 32,000 lb Motorgrader that there about to try to run over.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Tony

Road constuction is a very necessary endeavor and for obvious reasons can be dangerous.
Thanx for keeping the roads safe for us....cheers...Ted (Toto....my mini schnauzers name....I can't remember my own!)

Buy a cheap "One-Use" camera and toss it in the glove box.
Next time you can photograph the scene BEFORE any vehicles are moved.
Then you can move them out of the flow of traffic and wait for the Police.
Also photograph the other driver and the tag number in case they 'skip', or claim something other than what happened.
Cheap insurance.

You say that now, wait untill the fire department has to cut the car out from under your truck as the other driver was trying to answer their cell phone and didn't see the red light. I have not had someone cut out from under mine, but I have had to cut someone out from under another truck.

TONY T: Sorry to tell you this but, You had better keep your fingers crossed!!!
The nice, reasonable person you "hit" is not the same greedy lying deceitful creature that may likely be talking to her lawyers and their doctors right now...

If something like this EVER happens again and you even THINK there may have been the slightest contact between even your bumper sticker and their car, call the cops!, Get a report! Take pictures!
Don't wimp out, as you'll regret it if they later claim YOU hit THEM and there is now hidden damage on their vehicle. Or Heaven forbid, PERSONAL INJURY that "shows up" later!!!.
You can't prove/disprove a thing now as you are long-gone from the scene with no Police report!

Thank God I did have the police there at my fenderbender! The nice friendly driver told me, the cops and another bystander they had NO injuries.. Less than a week later, he was claming all kinds of injuries that could only be made to go away with copious quantities of insurance money!!!!

Sorry, but it is not a nice, reasonable world out there anymore! CYA at all times!!!
Remember,... No more mr. nice-guy!!! Call!!!

Been there, done that...
Keith

I'm with Rattler on this. I don't care how hot she is, she could say what ever she wants to a lawyer and probably get some major bank out of it.
