Is it really expensive to bomb a new truck? What would I be looking at price wise? Or should I look for an older truck again to bomb?

So far I've got about $900 invested in a comp (120hp) and 275 injectors (40-60hp). I've got the comp in EZ mode (65hp) and the truck hauls some major butt. I can stomp on it from a light and be doing 90 before I realize it. It cruises at 105mph like it's nothing. I can't wait to build the tranny and tap the wire.

Blue, hes talking about a third gen (04 or 05)

Yeah, its not cheap to bomb a newer truck and you risk vioding the warranty if thats an issue with you.

while i do agree electronic powertrain mods should void warrenty, i don' think changing the exhaust or intake should void the warrenty...

and i also think if one has their warrenty voided, they should get a pro-rated remaining warrenty value refunded to the owner...

No real need to bomb it till warranty is over.
Even in the stock configuration the 3rds have more power than most bombed 2nds.

I'm not on anyone's case here (looking back at original post, it seems sort of like it) but it really does not matter what an owner *thinks* or not. The point is for the company it's a liability issue. They design a vechile to operate a certain way under numerous conditions that an end-user will likely never encounter to insure it is safe for all situaitons it will encounter in use. They cannot possibly test everything we do with a truck, but they try to hit the vast majority. Even a small differance can affect things that seem minor, but over time could have a major effect. Moreover, with emissions regulaitons coming into effect and tighter controls being placed in these areas, they have to protect thir back somehow. I believe tempering with emissions equipment is an offense federally, this includes removing a Cat or altering the exhuast. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Back on topic, I do hope eveything works out from this mess. Seems that looking back upon what happend, the time to call your lawyer might have been after you encoutered the original owner. Really too bad this happened, and I hope there is never a next time, but if that were to happen to anyone else, I might suggest calling the authorities and your lawyer right away.

I was in a simular situation 1 year ago and this is what you can do after consulting a lawer.

Do not give up
the truck even for a minute to any cop or RCMP. When they come to the door demanding the truck ask them for a court order saying for you to do so. No court order = you keep the truck untill they produce one if they even can. This is well within your rights here in Canada and helps any further legal action that may be neded against the seller. This will give Dmv a chance to look over their records again incase of an oversite. It is not uncommon for a wreck to go through an integrity test and get a new vin # and the dmv could have THEIR records all screwed up.
If they tow or take it without your permission report it stolen right away without notifing them.

I am not a lawyer by any means and you need to talk to one.

I asked if he could prove it so he pulled out a key fob and key that both opened me doors and started the truck. We talked for a bit and he told me that he had been paid out by his insurance company so that was all good. He gave me the extra key and key fob and left. Four days later I get a call from the police asking me to bring my truck to get checked out. The rest is history, the guy must have called the police or his insurance company and gave them my plate #. Why couldn't he leave well enough alone?
I would have waited a coulpe days then report it stolen, strip it and use the parts in another truck! Oh well, that wouldn't solve anything. Keep us informed though, and good luck.

The biggest "extra" cost i have found in the new truckks vs a 3rd gen is the extra cost for the injectors. Which i cant figure out why there costing more. From what ive read you cant get a whole new injector. all you can get is new tips. Which to me isnt worth the 1100 buckks. On a second gen the injectors are cheeper. Now these days the 2nd gen electronics maybe cheeper due to the 3rd gen engine being out. So the older gets cheeper ect. But like it was said , an 05 has 325 and 610 right out of the box and a simple box with proper engine mods ( intakes exhaust and trans) can almost double that ( tst) The Trannies are still the same cost wise, Intakes are the same, Watch ur dealer lots for a used 04, this fall watch for a used 05( there around i know it) And go that rout. and be like i want 5k taken off and the warrenty voided now haha. Thinkin of that it might just be a bargin chip later

The "injectors" on a 1st and 2nd gen trucks actually called fuel injection nozzles. That is because of the fuel injection pumps. They inject the fuel once the fuel pressure created by the fuel injection pumps, is enough to overecome the spring in the nozzle.

The ones on the 3rd gens are called unit injectors. In our case, they are actuated by a solenoid, not the fuel pressure. They have a constant supply of fuel, then actated by the solenoid at the proper time.

On other engines, they are acutated by solenoids only, solenoids/high pressure engine oil (HEUI, on the PSD, some other Navistar engines and some Cat), mechanically ( like some of the Detroits, Cummins (w/ PT and PT-G pumps).

In short, the fuel injection nozzles are cheaper because they don't have much to them. Much simpler.

$900-1100/set of 6, is still cheaper than buying a set of 8, for a PSD or D-max.
