Make the cops PROVE its stolen if you have a bill of sale. Cops do not decide ownership, judges do. Obviously, the original victom collected insurance and is "whole". So why can't you keep it? Make them PROVE it in a court of law. I would at least call an attorney NOW.
Sounds like they local PD might need a red neck undercover vehicle.
Never mind, you live in Canada. You loose.

If anything you should atleast be owed the money you put into it( to buy and what not) If you can legally prove you paid for it , Its legally yours stolen or not. Happened to my cousin in iowa. He bought a Camery that was stolen, from a private party. Something likek 3 months later they came up to him and said his car was a hot car yada yada. But then it went to court and he ended up keepin the car. Good luck man
Thanks for all the kind words guy. I will definitaly be talking to a lawyer, I wont give up that easy. I will keep everyone informed of the progression as it unfolds, because we all know that the court system is fast and fair

Maybe it was part of that theft ring they busted here a year ago. It went from B.C. to Quebec and involved high end pickups and farm equipment, about 300 items. I think it was 30 people involved. They got vins off the internet (non Canadian) and used that to register them. They made up the one in the windshield so it looked good. Told the buyers not to take vehicle to a dealer for anything. It was believed you could order you choice of vehicle from these guys. I see the local componds still have the stolen stuff locked up (nice looking rigs and stuff) . I believe the case starts in the courts soon.
Hope you get this mess cleared up and get it back.

yes hopefully real soon. Think I just want my money back though, I am now very seriously looking at getting an 05 CTD. If I drive one off the lot at least I am covered from this happening agian. I also have a buddy that works for DC and can get me the friends and family discount.
wow.....I recently had a fight with the state of california on a vehicle title. Ilive in NV and they would not give me title cause I wouldn t /couldn t register the car in california....Long story short, they eventually realized their stupidity when I sent the third reg letter regarding my only recourse left was legal action. I then get the title fee waved and a title a couple days later..... It was owned by the state of california (park vehicle) that was sold through a contracted auction by the state of cal that was not suppose to sell the car.
On the truck, what evidence do they have that its stolen? Versus crash repair, dmv screw up etc....6 months is along time.

Last monday I ran into the guy who originally owned the truck, he bought it new. He told me that that used to be his truck and that it was stolen. I asked if he could prove it so he pulled out a key fob and key that both opened me doors and started the truck. We talked for a bit and he told me that he had been paid out by his insurance company so that was all good. He gave me the extra key and key fob and left. Four days later I get a call from the police asking me to bring my truck to get checked out. The rest is history, the guy must have called the police or his insurance company and gave them my plate #. Why couldn't he leave well enough alone?
wow, that sucks, but i have been on the other end, my truck got stolen out of my yard, all i can say is if i had seen a guy driving it around i would NOT have had a cordial conversation with him
hope it all turns out well, i still cant see why you wouldnt be able to keep the vehicle after all is said and done.

If the original owner got paid off by the insurance company, they'll probably have a legal claim to the truck so that they can auction it off to recover part of their loss.
Sorry about your loss. Keep us posted on how it turns out.

Not to mention the LOSS of a warranty once it's modified - which I fully support a company in doing. Exhuast, intake, chip, they all will VOID it. As they SHOULD.
