Why no GM entry?

 

The Chebbies aren't rated to pull 25k lbs. That's also why they had to use an F450 against the 3500. The Ram out classes the other 1-tons currently on the market.

Kinda figured it would do good. About time they got it all together on the front end. Before, we would get it together for ourselves on the back end. Mod away as they say.

Exactly.... I looked at them and the price is crazy. Just decided to keep the older rig. The interiors look awesome. Too bad I can't have my 5.9 in it without all the emission junk.

 

That $70k is exactly double what I paid for my 04 3500 Laramie 4x4 quadcab. Is it really "double" worth it?

The Ford had 4.30 gears. So really the ram with 4.10's did good

It is a shame Ram depowers the manual trans. The G56 can easily handel 850+ tq. And with a good driver would smoke the Asian slush box up the mountain.

I agree on the manual trans (but I'm biased -- I have one). Mine does a darn fine job towing my 16k 5th wheel around, with the power turned up to 5 or 7 with my Smarty.

would love to see what the ford would do with 410s in the rear as well...

that would have made it a more level playing field in my opinion... the ford outclassed the dodge in everything except Eisenhower pass, probably due to its deeper gearing..

I don't think the results would have been as close if they both had 410s or 430s in the diffs..

as stated, the price for these things is ridiculous, an overhaul is still cheaper than a new truck, a built auto, twins, and injectors, and mine will pull circles around those... whats not to say? with a smarty on five, sensible driving, and working trailer brakes I can haul a 416b on a 32 foot gooseneck just fine, and for the 12-14k I tow frequently, cant see the need for a new one

70K for a new ride? insane, when I can put 20 percent of that in high end products and have a "reliable" older tow rig.. and no emissions to boot...

 

I priced up a new 2014 RAM similar to the one in the test; I didn't want the Laramie Longhorn model, so mine came out to $61,280. This was a loaded up Laramie dually 4x4. Still high, but I bet you can buy it for $55k (or less). That's a lot less than $70k.

BUT... my current truck is now paid for as of two months ago and doing just fine, so really, I'm quite happy with it.

The Frod probably wasn't rated for the load put on it with 4.10's instead of the 4.30's.

 

Loaded to the nuts up in Canada will run you 85-90k for a 2014 after all the taxes/fees--- over half of what i paid for my first house that i still live in.They sure are nice but the 07 5.9 DRW Laramie(US vehicle) that i picked up for under $39,000 Canadian with 20,000miles sure does me fine, for being a 7 year old truck with 86k now. (minimal problems). The loan calculator on Ram.ca says that they have me by the short/curly's for the next 8 years at 500 plus by-weekly payment..Basically working to drive that truck each month and another few years they will be over 100K----OUCH.DW
