Know of any 6.9L ford diesel mods.
Know of any 6.9L ford diesel mods.
I have a coworker with an 84 Ford F350. The engine has been recently rebuilt and is NONturbo. The truck runs like it always has...low on power etc. Are there any cheap mods that are known to work well? Cost of a turbo or propane is not an option. Is the exhaust or intake tract too restrictive? Fuel pressure adjustment?

Hmm
you can turn up the fuel on the IP, buy some injectors from Ken (landyaught on TDS) and get an aftermarket turbo system in there. With some propane, and ALOT OF MONEY u might hit 400 or so horses if ur lucky... But the cheapest and easiest mod, is to turn that fuel screw, again, make sure u have a pyro

I remember reading somewhere on thedieselstop.com that the intake was very restrictive. They have an article in there about swiss cheesing the air filter housing and really improving the 6.9.
Here is a link to the 6.9 tips page.

you can advance/retard the timing on that stanadyne pump by simply loosening the nuts on the studs that hold the pump on & rotating the pump, towards the pass. side advances & the drivers side retards, only way I ever found to really tweak the timing was by turning the pump & driving & then turning & driving, once you go out of the "sweet spot" you'll start to notice a loss in power & if you go too far you'll have a knock that sounds like the truck has just been started on a cold day ( sounds like it does when you start it & the timing advance is kicked in) it's almost a growl so to speak, you'll just have to play with it a bit to get it right, & def. turn the pump up ( the full load screw) a bit it'll be alot better to drive, those 6.9's can take alot of heat & abuse, more so than the old 7.3 IDI's could, anyway good luck & have fun!!!! We took a '85 6.9 from 19K to 300K+ before she caught fire. Only mod was the dual exhaust w/ glasspack mufflers. There are better options for exhaust now, but that was the strongest 6.9 in the neighborhood back in the day...
