I'm not trying to start an argument either. I just want people to be informed of what they are getting themselves into when buying a 7000 lb truck with a goal of making it fast. I understand it's not the norm. And I understand and appreciate the appeal in doing so. I'm just saying it's not for everyone. It takes "special" people to even attempt such tasks and you should be prepared to spend some serious money and some time if you plan to run 13 second 1/4 mile times in a 7000 lb truck. It's not easy and it's not inexpensive. If it were, it would be the norm. I'm not wrong at all about that.

Peace my CTD brothers (and sisters)

I'd agree with you there. It does take a special breed. Most people on this site know after awhile what they'd be getting into. I personally would recommend reading this site for quite awhile before starting any modding. The only thing about doing that is that it makes the itch even worse. Most people buy the truck start reading this site and see what these trucks are capable of and it's too late. I say this because that's what happened to me. If I had an unlimited amount of money I'd have the sickest truck ever seen. But I don't so I have to wait a little while between mods. It makes it worse. You don't have to worry about me trying to start an argument or flame war because I'm not here to do that. I'm here to learn and share experience like everyone else.

Talking

I agree that buying a heavy duty pickup just to go fast is a little inefficient to say the least. And I agree that it takes alot of money to make them go real fast. However, consider this, you can go real fast in a mustang or a camaro easily, true. But you'd be hard pressed to use that car for much else making it a one trick pony that is pretty much useless for anything but tickets. The cummins can go 13's at the strip, than go to work the next day and haul stuff, than get washed and go to church, than get hooked to the rv for a vacation. What other vehicle will do that? If you read here for awhile, you'll see that most of the real fast guys here own their own business that why they have the coin to spend. That means that their trucks are tax deductible business expenses. When you consider the tax benefits, not to mention that you don't have a camaro sitting in the drive way all week only to come out saturday night when it costs you money for insurance all the time and possibly a payment the most cost effective go fast solution becomes clear.

Even better point. Never thought about it like that.

I think he missed the part about me having a second vehicle. The 4Runner has 50k on it, itll be around for a while, so, if it does break, it doesnt matter. This is what I want, sorry man, I realize your argument is vaild. But I like diesel, the sound is amazing, and if I ever do need to pull something, i wont have a problem. The truck will be used on the weekend anyway. So unless i get a good deal on a 7.3 ill probally go with a cummins. So all you guys should be pleased, haha.

The truck you want to build (1000tq) is a lot of truck. Probably gonna need the 2nd Generation or newer and a pretty fat wallet to even get it there. Check out some of the videos of trucks that Dyno that kind of power and look at what they have done to them. Cummins does sound the best at idle or kickin it. No offense to others, my opinion.

No reason to by sorry. If it is what you want, great! I do have to point out that if you modify it to the point of 13 sec quarter mile times and/or 1000 lb torque, there is a strong chance you won't be able to pull anything without great risk of melting the $1000 turbo you had to put on it to get to that level of performance. Check out the Performance and Accessories section of this forum and it won't take you long to find several examples of people who haven't modified their trucks anywhere near the levels you are shooting for, yet they can't keep EGTs in line when attempting to tow. I think one on the very first page of threads even mentions they can't pull a bass boat without the EGT's skyrocketing.

I won't continue to argue the point if your mind is made up. If you are fortunate enough to buy a Cummins, I hope you are as pleased with yours as I have been with mine.

Yeah, I don't see any NEED to tow, so I'm not worried.

You could probably get pretty close to your goals with a CR 3rd gen truck. I've seen quite a few very powerful ones with just a few cheaper mods.
One of my fellow chapter members has an 05 with EZ and Juice/Attitude stack and that truck is fast. He just ordered an HTS full billet race tranny today for $6100.
Wanna check out some sled pullin come on out to the Buck June 2nd. Here is the thread.

PS fill in all or you guys locations so we know where you are from then join your local chapter. We are always wrechin on someones truck.
