So my VP 44 finally died yesterday. When I called AAA I told them "Send a flatbed, it's a big truck. The guy pulls up, looks at my truck.........looks at his flat bed tow truck.......looks back at my truck and says "lets give it a try. All went will getting the truck up the ramp, but when he went to lift the truck to a horizontal position, nothnig happened. We were both looking at my truck not move as he worked the levers, but nothing..........till we looked back and were a bit startled to because we could see about 3 feet of air under the cab of the truck. I nearly wet myself laughing.
The towing company sent an International chassis Roll-Back to pick up my dually when my VP croaked in January.
It picked it up, .....but you could tell from the sounds the hydraulics were making, it wasn't very happy about it.

When my wheel bearing bit the dust , I called the tow company , and told them to send the rollback , and told them what i had, their response was to "send the big one" a 5 ton tandom freighliner with a 25' roll back deck , as much as i hate to admit this , you hardly knew my truck was on it... But i did convince him to use the jake brake as much as possible when he took me home after dropping the truck off , my room mates didn't like that at 11 pm on a sunday night.
I have a friend that runs a towing company and they just bought a brand new GMC 5500 roll back with a crew cab and a duramax. He also has a 05 2500 Quad cab 4x4 CTD....
Anyway, one night about a month ago we had gone out for the evening in his 2500 a had both dipped into the silly sauce a bit much and decided not to drive home so, he called his on duty roll back driver to come pick us up and the CTD.......I must say I was impressed with the roll back hydraulic power on that 5500!! It quickly and effortlessly yanked the deck with the CTD on it back up onto the truck! I couldn't believe it......then, the Dmax impressed me my effortlessly cruising down the highway at 75-80 mph. I never knew a medium duty roll back could be so strong.

When my VP died last July, AAA sent an International rollback with the DT466. No problem loading truck or getting it horizontal again, but the poor truck was working hard at 45mph. Kinda had me laughing. Wishing my Cummins was running, so I could show him a proper diesel. But alas, it was not. Now with the HRVP and Comp, it runs like it should.
Back in 03 when mine vp died they sent a mid-late 90's chevy 3500HD and it was a load for it for sure. I think they international would have been alot better suited for the truck. My dad came to pick me up then we called the wrecker company, they showed up with that truck and I asked my dad "do you think that will handle it?" HE said "if it doesn't its their problem" But they made it. Then we hauled it about 75 miles to get a pump put in on a 10000# 20' tag trailer with my friends ford. In the end it all worked out just fine. Learned my lesson, should have had have a fuel pressure guage.
