I want one of these!

actually i was reading truck trend, and was gonna post if anyone new anything about it,, Truck Trend said they would start being produced in a couple months. Maybe in the next year the ( contractors special) as it was called will be available I know ill be in line

I am leary of any new desing or concept. They usually take 5 to 10 years to finish their development while the people who own them pay and pay and pay for repairs and upgrades and finally get rid of them. It sounds great, but I've seen the auto companies in action too many times. I'll pass on this deal.

Dodge has been saying that this hybrid was coming out next year since at least 2002.
I wouldn't hold my breath.

You know that sounds great, but any thing with that many electric parts you know will be a nightmare. I would hate to see the repair bills on that puppy.[yuk]

Yesterday some fellow church members were talking about how neat it would be to get on the waiting list to buy one of the hybrid cars out now...
I spoke up and said, save your money, and instead buy one of the little killer new mini-turbodiesel engine powered vehicles for some super mileage and ecology with long term economy.
I shudder to think about having to maintain($$) all that hybrid electric motor drive electronics, a battery bank AND an internal combustion engine system on top of all that!

I am a firm believer in the "KISS" principle, and hybrids violate the crap out of it!:o

News story this morning stated that there's a 2-3 month waiting list for a new hybrid, and in some cases they're being sold used, for more than they cost brand new.:rolleyes:

Complexity is inversely proportional to system reliability. That's why I love my older vehicles. I can still work on them with only needing 2 sets of tools (SAE/Metric). The computer stuff is nice if you have the equipment, schematics and rom codes but when the manufacturers keep their computer designs secret to be able to charge exorbitant prices for replacements it gives me the willies. I also like driving a $10,000 more reliable vehicle than a $40,000 computer controlled beast that makes me hit ctrl-alt-del every 2 hours.

Mechanical vehicles are great. And computers are great. It's when you mix the two that bad things start to happen.

If vehicles were either all mechanic or all electrical (obviously not possible), they would be on the road forever.

Can you imagine one of the big three building an inexpensive, SUPER reliable, economical car today, something along the line of Hitler's "People's Car" concept?
Something with a small, mechanically injected Turbodiesel and manual tranny and NO computer!!! Something without all the durned power assisted bells and whistles to breakdown shortly out of warranty...

Won't ever happen! :( But it'd be fun to BOMB!;)

Doomgaze: I have a 1950 Plymouth that is still running! It has an electrical system schematic that was printed on a single 8-1/2"x11" sheet of paper!
Not a single solid state gizmo anywhere in it!
