who/where is this kill switch installed?

I use a big honkin' steering wheel lock to discourage them from even trying.

Put a switch in line with the clutch safety switch if you have manual. If you have an auto there is a jumper in place of the switch.

Use a DPDT switch; one section kills the starter circuit while the second half connects the Ignition switch output directly to the Horn.

This way they will announce when they are trying to steal your truck by blowing the horn.

You can get creative with relays to flash your lights.

On my last truck I installed a Mico Lock, I would lock the brake without setting it.
If it was stolen they could drive it away until the first time they applied the brakes then they would lock up usually in an intersection.

Amazing it was that easy to get through the door lock with a screwdriver, wasn’t a lucky jab.

You need to see if you can reinforce the sheet metal behind the lock, or you can buy one of these.

It would sure be nice if we could get them to be an advertiser here on DTR with all of these vulnerable Dodges around.

Jim,

Can I wire in a switch like you describe for a gen1 truck?

He's got it on his first gen.

cbtumedic 01-04-2009 11:24 PM

I had one on my first gen as well, put it in a creatively hidden spot and tell no one where it is, although on mine it was inline with the shut down solenoid, so it'd crank but wouldn't fire IIRC, it's been about 5 years since I sold the thing so I could be mistaken.

That sucks. I need to put a switch in mine. Maybe I can find the starter relay wire undere the dash and cut into it?

I have a friend who has his car wired so that it won't start unless your foot is on the brake pedal. I've also seen a lumbar support switch rewired to be a kill switch, in a Truck where the owner didn't ever use the lumbar adjuster.

Where is the jumper wire?

Look on the bright side. Your truck is still in your driveway.

caper 01-05-2009 07:18 PM

I have a magnetic reed switch in mine , not telling anyone where its wired into , too gun shy now lol.... I have one in the clutch bypass wire also but that is too obvious of a place for a pro. Theres no sense locking the doors , ya loose a window or a door like mine , If they want in ther're gettin in . This all happened in Ft Mac where all ya need is a heartbeat to make 200K a year but dirtbags don't want a real job and so this instead.

OutlawR6 01-08-2009 10:31 PM

That sucks, but I know how you feel. Just came back from holiday break and found my truck the same way. But they didn't mess up the metal, just poked a hole in the middle of the plastic handle.. Was having issues with the aftermarket alarm not letting me start it and I pulled both batteries before I left so it wasn't going anywhere without a tow. Just need to fix the steering lock and I'll be back on the road again. Just sucks that you can't keep people out if they really want to get in..
