How many miles till your CTD option pays for itself?
Re:How many miles till your CTD option pays for itself?
I bought mine with 7 miles on the clock, it's got about 202,000 on it now. I swear, it gets more fun to drive every day. The girlfriend has complained about the noise on a couple dates... but she doesn't complain when it gets her to the grocery store during a blizzard - something about that engine noise makes you confident you're gonna make it home ok! It's paid-for, and I cannot bring myself to trade or sell it. After doing 5th gear nut, a clutch, etc. - I know the truck so well I couldn't imagine not ever having one. I was recently offered 13K trade in value at a local dealership - talk about incredible resale value. No gasser with 200K miles on the original engine could bring that kind of trade value. Too bad I'm not ever gonna trade it in...

Don't know about Dodge, but for a Chevey V-8, you have to also figure.....
Four O2 sensors after 60,000 miles
Intake manifold gasket after 75,000 miles (all vortecs)
Water pump after 75,000 miles.
Belt tensioner at 80,000 miles.
After 125,000, a quart of oil between oil changes. (Watched my neighbor add a quart yesterday)
Couple other expensive emission parts after 60,000.
8, $7 spark plugs at 100,000
Mostly freeway driving.
This is constistant with what other people I talk to experience.

My mom's got a 2000 Burban with the 5.3L with 80k+ on it and we've never had to replace any of those things. We've got several friends who had Vortec Burbs with over 100K and they never had any of those problems either.
I wanted a diesel for my first truck. Plain and simple. We couldn't afford a D/Max and we wouldn't even consider a Ford. So we bought my Dodge. I have yet to regret that decision. ;D Mom and dad just bought an 04 Dmax (waiting on it to be delivered) so we'll see what I'm supposedly missing with my truck. :
