Help with Duramax

I just got into a 06 Kodiak (work truck) I installed the edge juice/a2. At the time it seemed to be the right way to go (gps). I have now found out that (cant get a straight answer from edge) that they (edge) only support technically with up to 3500 series trucks. The truck seems to have a touch more power but not what it should be doing at all. The a2 is not reading out correctly (temp etc....) the truck rolls nice and as the rpms progress it seems to hickup. Any input on tuning the truck to the box would be welcome. Any input to help would be great. i wnt to diesel place (durmax site) and nobody responded. So then I come to my fellow ctd guys. Thanks in advance

Edge makes good products, but like any company they have a few bad boxes slip through QC on occasion. I'd see if you can trade it for another. If that fails, sell the Kodiak and get a new Dodge/Sterling 5500.

Usually once you enter the 6500 series class of trucks the fuel management (mapping) is completely different than a 3500 series even though they may be the same displacement or style engines. Your hiccup is most likely a software compatibility issue.

most of the lrger trucks like that run a completelly different program in the ecm with substantially different fuel timing from a pickup engine.

are you sure you're using an Edge for the 2006 trucks?

2005 and earlier medium duty and 2500/3500 trucks use a completely different ECM and data bus, which would explain the incorrect readout of data.

no they dont.

they run ~100us less injector duration at 80%-100% throttle and 140-160mpa fuel pressure, and one degree less timing at 2900 rpm.

otherwise the tuning is identical

Thats what I was reading. Just because the truck is an 06, doesn't make the engine series 06. The medium duty trucks are usually lagging behind with the engine model and tune. You may very well have the tune/ECM for an 04 release LLY in there instead of the pickup version 06 LBZ. The ECMs are different between the two with different processors and processor speed.

All 2006 trucks (including the medium duties) run the new Bosch E35 (a variant of the widely used in europe Bosch EDC-16) ECM. The only 2006 model year vehicle to still use the old Delphi LS2-based 16 bit ECM was the Hummer H1 Alpha. All 2006 Kodiaks used the new Bosch ECM that the LBZ uses.

If you got an early release 06 Kodiak, then there is still a chance of having the older ECM?

duratothemax 03-14-2007 06:06 PM

probably not, depends what the RPO code is for the engine in question.

also look under the hood; is there a Bosch FICM/EDU mounted on the passenger side valve cover?
