The good news this article shows is the new E320 CDI Posted a world-record speed of 139.696mph for 100,000 miles over 30 days of continous track driving. Excellent durability test, impressive results.

Now for my old-school ways of thinking. The bad news is this is the new V-6 model, which will replace the 5 and 6 cylinder INLINE engines begining this summer. I don't know, the V-6 may be durable and hopefully a great engine, but I really prefer inline engines overall. Naturally-balanced, much easier to turbocharge, very very durable, and what a sound you can produce! I just really don't like to see the loss of another good inline six engine, even more so when it's a diesel. Guess it's just a rant form an old-tech like me, but look what I drive...

 

Ya I read the same thing. I test drove the I-6 and was impressed. 37 MPG.
6.6 sec in 0-60.

The turbo is a computer controlled variable vein so I don't know how upgradable it will be. I think a chip will be all that will be offered. My biggest problem with them changing to a V-6 in 2006 is it will make the current 2005 I-6 become a engine that the aftermarket wont touch because its limited number. (in USA)
I dunno-- If I get a 2005 it will probly remain unbombed anyway so I wont be looking for an umbundance of aftermarket gizmos anyway.
I will say I was impressed with the torque. I think 6.6 is faster than a Ram with a hemi. (tell me if i'm mistaken)
