Giving diesel a bad name.

Here is a good way to make even more non-diesel folks hate out trucks.

Saturday I watched a guy show off his stacks by driving down main street and about every half block mashing the fuel, leaving huge clouds of black. Cars going in both directions had to pass through these.

They hung in the air for a long time.

Guess how they will vote when asked about diesel regulation?

Did it look cool? Not even from my CTD.

I agree, another case of a few ruining it for all of us.
When I see someone belching smoke my thought is what a fool, not how cool.

I find it cool, but it's not for me. At least, not on a road with other vehicles present. I suppose to a certian extent it could be viewed as dangerous too?

If your at the strip or something, I say let her rip. Otherwise it's kind of foolish.

O poo....I wish my truck would do that...now, I wouldn't just do it in the middle of town or in traffic, but I would love to have enough tweak to get the black clouds out of old silver!

I fogged a guy once pretty bad, but it was not out of malice or anything- I had to get around him and flooring it was the only way to do it. That said I was thinking as I saw the cloud that I was not doing our cause any favors. Not sure I'd do it again.

I think the point about the track or when alone is a good one- otherwise smoke with care.

Doing it in the middle of a busy downtown, in the middle of a busy Saturday though- that was the cake.

It can be a great tailgating deterrent though!

That said, I'm thinking hard about replacing my 370's with some injectors that have the proper spray pattern for our trucks. I want to cut the smoke way down when I'm just driving. That haze at idle isn't doing anyone any good either.

big jimmy - I've had the same mindset since joining the TDR back in 2000 or 2001, whichever it was.

I went to a TDR event in Hell, MI (when I lived up yonder), and we went from some resteraunt to the Chrysler Proving Grounds. On the way, we were on this somewhat narrow 2 lane road. There was a bicyclist riding on the right edge of the road. I'd say about 80% of about 200 trucks (probably, could've been more), let him have it. And I mean big time.

I didn't, because I felt sorry for the guy. There were so many trucks so he couldn't cross between them to the other side of the road. He basically couldn't do anything but take it. OK, I'll admit it, it was somewhat amusing at the time. I even giggle thinking back on it now. But just couldn't do it to him, for his heath's sake. Plus, he wasn't doing anything to deserve it.

That instance turned me off to smoking others out ... except when they deserve it.

Bless those guys! I'm so sick of seeing those "share the road" stickers! Bite my bumper! My truck weighs #8300 and you and that stupid bike weigh 250. GET OFF THE ROAD! If they'd stay on the shoulder and ride opposite traffic flow like the LAW REQUIRES, I'd not have a problem with them. The jerks ride down the middle of the lane here! I just want to speed bump them.....Sorry....I got all wound up.

Don't get me wrong. Cyclists steam me too when they obstruct traffic. I also find it amusing that every year about the time of Tour de France, that you see all the guys out on their bikes wearing all the EDIT colored spandex, wanting to be Lance Armstrong.

But this particular guy I'm talking about could only see a few feet in front of him for all the smoke. It was overkill. He was on the edge and probably in the grass/glass to stay out of the way. But he was on the RH edge, instead of the LH edge. And the pipes were aimed straight at him. These guys had smoke gallore & smoke aiming down to a science.

It amazes me how much hatred someone doing something different from what you'd do can generate. Lets all be the same, then all we would have to hate is ourselves I suppose.
We have a lot of cyclists here. Most of them are good riders who deserve a little space. Some are jerks, but why lower ourselves to that level and smoke them?
Maybe nobody mentioned it, but the world is becoming more crowded. I'd accept the differences that brings, rather than reject them. Seems life would be a lot simpler then.
And how come nobody ever mentions how obnoxious a straight piped Harley sounds? When they were rare it was motor music. Now its just another cliche'. A straight piped HD- how original.
See where I'm going with this?

You need to check your local road use laws,

Where to Ride
Bicycle riders on public streets have the same rights and responsibilities as automobile drivers. Cyclists are part of the normal traffic flow and are entitled to share the road with other drivers.

Cyclists must ride in the same direction as other traffic, not against it. They should normally ride as near to the right curb or edge of the roadway as practical. Not on the sidewalk.

I built my truck with 370's as well and they are smokey. I did it because they were cheap and being new to diesel performance I was not sure if I would even want a truck this fast. That being said at times yes it is okay but if I am on city street or even, dare it be said, street racing I make sure I am in the right lane. I feel guilty leaving as much smoke as I do.

I will be looking at some EDM's when I put the funds together. Luckily it is a tow vehicle/play toy so I drive a crappy little BMW daily to the tune of 32MPG.

Have to jump in on this one. I ride a bicycle (on the rd.!!!), I also dirve a CTD, that is smoky , I hate the EDIT that dirve in the hammer lane doing 10 under the posted( ie. autos)!!! We should be aware of other people present on the rd. riders and drivers. Those that are aware and follow the rules of the rd. no matter whether drivers or ridders should be allowed safe travel. Sorry for the rant. The less beer I have the more concise I am.
Thanks
Doc
