fuel preheater
 

hey guys it's been a while since my last post. the other day at the coffee joint this old timer was yappin about a fuel pre-heater that he had made for his 86 chev 6.2l diesel. it was made with a fuel line on the inside of a pipe and hot engine coolant was circulated around to warm the fuel. he says that pre-heating diesel makes more power and give better milage. has anybody out there ever heard of this or is it another bow tie freak that doesn't have a clue about what he's talking about.

I think the VP44 will heat the fuel enough, thanx.<br><br>Already the fuel is cooling/lubrication for the pump, don't think we want preheated fuel going through there.<br><br>I'll pass.<br><br><br>phox

I read some time ago that 160 - 180 degrees is the best temp range for diesel fuel for power and mileage.<br>I was expecting it to be colder than that. Lower temp more dense.

maybe the older trucks with lower injection pressures will benefit but higher pressures create more heat .

I have always thought that the fuel preheater was to keep the fuel from gelling in extremely low temperatures..

my 97 has a fuel preheater from the factory.<br><br>for those of you who dont know, it has a screen in it that can clog up. check it sometime. mine was so clogged up, the truck wouldnt go over 50mph, and it was blowing white smoke. after i cleaned it, it ran,and is still running like a champ.

40 degrees and colder starts the fuel heating process and it turns off at 80 degrees.<br><br>Jerry
