Fuel Additives

Thought id ask on what is everyone using for a good diesel cold weather additive and also summer additive. I have been using Lucas for 8,000 miles but Howes and Power Service is also used by mostly tractor trailer units. Also some have been mixing 1/3 of Marvel Mystery Oil and 1/3 less of their usual mix. I have the usual injector noise as mostly everyone else does but the reputation of Lucas is good. I have read threads where Howes is more injector friendly. So what do you think?

I use Power Service Cetane Boost, the one in the grey bottle. Only one I have ever tried. It boosts cetane and adds lubricity, the two things I want out of an additive.

I use Marvel Mystery oil. Seems to work good, but I want to switch to something for the winter, like stanadyne or power service. Anybody have links for these two products or other suggestions for cold weather additives that help lubricate the fuel and help with gelling problems?

You can pick up Howes and Lube-Tec from UFA Farm stores and service stations.

I vote for the Marvel Mystery too!

Lots of choices. I have become a believer. I use a mix of Power Service Diesel Kleen (3 parts) and Marvel Mystery Oil (1 part). I add 16 oz of this mix to every fillup(28-30 gals). I have been doing this for the last 24,000 miles or so. Started using Stanadyne, but it was expensive and hard to find. PS Kleen and MMO easy and inexpensive at Wally-World. I dont know if it improves mpg, but it does make the engine run and sound smoother. The added lubrication and injector cleaning is benefit enough for me.

Thanks Dr.Evil,
I'm definately going to look into Lube-tec, I dont mind supporting an Albertan cause [laugh] ;) . Next time I'm around a UFA I'll make sure I pick up a bottle or two of their regular diesel fuel conditioner!
