It was an 08. OMG I have a friend that can make about a 5" flame out of his M715 with a 97 CTD and a 5" stack but only under load and 1600*+ for short times. That is unreal. The cooling vents on the tailpipes don't seem to be working like they should. Wander what he was doing when he noticed the flame. Probably cooking another car. Guess it would be to much to ask of them to fix the prob instead of defueing if it gets to hot. What a joke. But what else do you expect from a company that was 12.7 Billion ( yes with a B) in the red last year. Not that Crystler (Dodge) or GM are doing a lot better. Next I will put a CTD in a 76 Chevy like I had and have a real truck.

It seems to have been taken down. I saw it fine before and now it is a 401 Authorization Required error....
Maybe too many people were watching it and it exceeded their bandwidth allowance...
Nope, you're right it can be seen from the home page of that site.
Sure heated up the pavement...!

Yeah, especially considering what those things COST...
I was just reading the article about the recall and the exhaust afterburner business and the computer controlled common rail injection and I am SO glad I have a non computerized, old school diesel 6 cyllinder truck engine. These new things sound crazy. I have so far shied away from the TDI VWs because they are computer controlled pumps and "drive by wire" throttle control. Makes we nervous not to have a physical connection to something as important as the throttle!
I'm assuming the new dodge must have some similar system for dealing with particulate emissions...?
I know, my gas FI Jetta has a computer, but I have less than $1500 into that car, not $30-40K and I can find a new computer for $50 somewhere for that one ...

I really like the TDI Jeta that my friend had. No probs and got 53MPG on #2 when driven right. Usually got flogged and got about 45MPG. Must be horrible. Sorry for the highjack. 53 ******, I guess the ford guys just laughed at the flames then too.

I saw that for the first time tonight. What a joke, all that testing and this issue didn't come up? On another forum a member said something like Ford may have looked at it like how long long can they get away with an issue before public outcry. Perhaps some programming issues or something but come on, flames coming from the tailpipe?! Some people would like it, but most people would freak the heck out. Do the 07 6.7 trucks have all the new emissions equipment that the 08 6.4's have? Or will the 08 6.7 have all the new gear....?

The best part is my dad would have bought one if they could've found him a long bed. They couldn't and he was driving through and saw the Dodge he has now. I called and told him the day the AP released the story and he couldn't stop laughing.

Since the afterburner works properly only when the DPF is in regen mode, I think that the extra injector that heats up the DPF during regen to burn out the accumulated deposits is leaking?

Being a prior service tech for Cadillac I can just imagine what the techs are saying as they watch this flame. We would get our new 06's in and it was supposed to be the cats meow, or one of our $70,000 and up cars with less than 2000 miles on them and it would have a massive oil leak and we would all gather under the rack and laugh and crack jokes and wonder how after 12-14 years of case halves leaking on Cadillac Northstar engines the engineers still have not figured out the problem. Or did they and they just were not worried about it??
