Ford F-350 7.3 Super Duty ran out of fuel and now wont start
My boyfriends super duty ran completely out of fuel (literally 6 minuets from the pump station we had to be towed too), we had two tow companies say they would bleed the lines do the filters and bleed the injectors but didn't and will not do it so after a $1950.00 dollar tow bill we cant afford anything but to fix it ourselves. when they sprayed starting fluid it fired but died, but there is a weird sound now sort of like a whooshing, what could it be? there is not a leak in the lines and we filled the truck up they refused to work on it and now since we live 3 hours away, and our 7 month old son with us we had to leave our truck, trailer and our load with the tow company, and they are delivering it tonight (hopefully). but what do we do? how do we it?

Sorry to hear of your troubles with your truck. It would help us to know what year your Ford Super Duty is and what diesel engine you have in it, such as the 7.3, the 6.0, 6.4 or the newer 6.7 diesel engines.

Thanks for your reply.
Let me see if I can help you out. Since you did run completely out of fuel, I am pretty sure you have air in the fuel system. As the tow companies told you, the injector lines need to be "bled" to get the air out and then be "re-filled" with JUST fuel. I don't think you really need to change the fuel filter UNLESS you think there may be dirt in the filter from running the fuel out. You will need to take the fuel filter out and then crank the engine until you see just fuel coming out. Then, put the fuel filter back in. seal everything back up and try to crank it.
You mentioned a "whooshing noise." I would check all of your air filter and intercooler hoses leading to and at the intercooler itself. IF a clamp on ANY of the intercooler or associated hoses are loose that can cause that type of noise. Also, you may be hearing the sound of air going into the fuel filter (with small amounts of fuel).
If I think of anything else I will post it here for you.......
