First NH biodiesel pump opens
Re:First NH biodiesel pump opens
One of the nice things about soy bean oil is that it's a byproduct of the food industry. When extracting soy proteine the oil is in the residue. Some of the oil is used directly for delivering energy to the plant, but some of the oil remains.
oil palms are highly efficient in their respective climates- but it's rather difficult to get to the oil. Rapeseed means fully automated harvest and easy to get to oil. And the partially de-oiled residues can either be burned and the ashes used as a fertilizer or can be used in a biogas reactor.
Just my 2c

Anybody know if biodiesel is sold anywhere in Colorado? I haven't seen it for sale in the western part of the state where I live.

DodgeRamCO42--If you google biodiesel+colorado you will see a whole bunch of info. Looks like there are pumps in Boulder and Denver at least, but there are contact numbers in some of the threads.

this site brought up 2 locations in the Atlanta area. I am going to contact them on Monday to see if they ship drums. One looks like a re-fueling station on I-75. Another interesting feature of this site is a alternative fuel trip planner

called S.A.White in Marietta GA today. They seem to have a pretty fair price. Works out to about $2.50 per gallon after taxes (b-100). You have to buy a drum (maybe an excuse for a bed tank) for $20.00. You can then use the drum for refills. They don't deliver but it is only 1.5 hours for me so I think I am going to run down there and give it a try. I've noticed a lot more members from this area lately so if anyone else wants to do this let me know. If you make arrangements to pay for it I will pick it up while I am down there.
Mark.
BTW, seems like I read somewhere about a tax deduction on alternative fuels?

Re:First NH biodiesel pump opens
Just FYI folks, a drum of this stuff weighs 400lbs. Just so you know it's not really easily 'liftable'
$2.50/gal isn't bad at all, especially considering you only mix 20%... Let us know how it turns out Mark.

Re:First NH biodiesel pump opens
fortunately I have access to a flatbed truck with a lift gate. I did some looking in the grainger catalog today. Lots of different ways to lift drums, especially if you can rig a chain fall somehow. Right now I am looking for a lift kit for my engine hoist
Until I figure out how to rig it I thought I would invite Scotty down for some good southern fried chicken.
