explain to me how the 48re trans works
New to these new diesel pickups, got old diesel box trucks but now after seeing the performance side of these things I'm confused about how these transmissions work especially the torque converter. What I'm "feeling" when I'm mashing the go pedal, feels like a slipping clutch, I assume this is the tc unlocked, then when it locks, theres the hugh acceleration burst. This burst does't seem to take place till 1900 rpm or so, then your into the next gear and it all starts over again. Is this the reason for aftermarket tc? If someone could explaine when/how the tc locks it would help me and if this is what I'm feeling I'd appricate it.
I've noticed a "funny feeling" now and again too....Almost like a double shift....Notice it most at low speeds (30 and under)
Ur right about boost, too...I dont really hear it spool up until 1600rpm, but after it spools, it runs like a scalded dog
Going out today to look for a suitable pipe to replace the crappy baffled torque tube....I want turbo SCREEEEAAAMMMM

I know what you mean about the sudden burst of acceleration. I think it's a combination of TC lockup combined with gobs of torque that can take advantage of the higher OD gearing. It was an odd feeling for me coming from a gasser - "So this is what torque is like!"
