Lightbulb 1500 cummins not cummin til 2011

If the article is correct we do not get a Cummins in a 1500 dodge til 2011.
I would like my 1994 15oo Dodge equipped with a 4.5 L or a 3.8 L or a 2.8 L 4 cylinder in a 1500 dodge. I would like it to haul or tow and get 25-30 mpg. Any one know how to make that happen and what would it cost?

Better finding a 12 valve to put in there. All mechanical, easy to repair, and cheaper. And it will have the potential to get 25mpg

Possibly locate an old delivery truck (bread, UPS, etc) that was equiped with a 4BT and do the transplant. Not sure if the suspension of the 1500 could handle the weight though.

I have not done the research myself, but I was told a 3.9L 4bt is very comparable in weight to the 360 it replaced. This was told to me by a guy who had a 3.9 swapped into his dakota.......

The current Ram 1500 engine line up is the following for Y11 is ,3.7L,4.7L ,5.7L ,
The current rumor is that a cummins or Fiat diesel engine is coming for the 1500, look for the Chrysler 5 year plan coming out the first week of Nov for additional info . Also rumor of 8 speed trans coming .

MAKE IT GET REAL GOOD FUEL MILEAGE.

Don't get into a bloody HP war, if you do, let the Hemi do your talking.

If you get 27-30 MPG and acceptable performance you will walk away the winner.

Advertise it as the mileage king, tie your advertising to the early Sprinters, you know, the 5 cyl ones that got 25 plus MPG?

Talk to some of those boys about giving up their Sprinter for one of the "powerful" V6 units. After you retrieve the bloody stump of your offer, come back and talk to us.

Sorry, that may have been a bit too direct, but there is a REAL market for a high MPG 1/2 ton pickup.

Just humor us, make a 4Cyl ISB Common rail mule and let real people drive it....... I think you will be surprised at the response, then lurk over on 4btswaps.com and see the kind of performance and mileage people are getting.

I'm gonna say 4BT as well. Putting that motor in a 1500 should get incredible fuel mileage. I'm thinking along the lines of 22 to 26 MPG. Adding some minor mods, 25 MPG should be easy.

This got me thinking ..... my oldest is turning 14 in December, and I could scoop up a decent Ram 1500 for cheap. It could be a really cool project truck for him and I.

Nice!!!

I've heard that being done with the Deutz 3 cylinder engines since these trucks were so light fantastic mileage could be had easily.

If they load the truck for towing capacity, fuel mileage will be shot. Rear ratio's will go up to make up the differance in HP and Torque with the smaller engines. Rear ratio's should be picked at purchase as well as tow packages. So, if you want a travel vehicle and mileage you can have it.

The 85 Chevy 1/2 ton 6.2 Diesel at 165 hp with the 700R4 Tranny would get
26 to 28 on the hwy. The tranny was the weak leak in the system. It also was an EGR engine. On the other hand the 3/4 ton version with a 4.10 and the indestructable Turbo 400 tranny, with no O/D, No EGR System would get 15-16 on the hwy and tow 11,000 lbs with no problems with the 180hp version of the 6.2. Both these engines were non Turbo Charged.

So you can see if they gear them (Cummins) correctly for the job, both low hp versions can do the job in both directions.

Look at the 12V 160-180hp engines. Not enough hp there to cause any excessive wear internally. They last forever. The transmission on my Sons 96
(my old truck and love it) now has 182,000 since it was last rebuilt. It got destroyed by towing, had 118,000 on it which is not bad.

I would like to see the V-6 Cummins or another Inline 4 like the 4BT. The marine version of the 4BT with a turbo is 250hp. That would run real good
in my 04 Durango.
