duramax and powerstroke

I like Cummins because they don't have "little" problems that can come out of the blue and ruin your day and wallet(except the vp-44 engines,no telling when it will dies.) KDP doesn't count because we can fix that once and for all.
For example,
7.3idi- It will run good one day and be locked up the next because cavition got the best of it.
7.3 Powerstroke- You know the cps will go bad,but when and where is the question. same goes for the idm, ecm, and vacuum pump. Been there done that, have a shirt to prove it!
6.5 Electronic-Injector driver(pmd?) another it will die, but when and where? Also experienced that.
24 valve Cummins (VP-44)-When the pump will go nobody knows.
Duramax- LB-7 engine had injector problems.Some had overheating issues.
6.0 Powerstroke- To be on the positive side, it makes a good boat anchor.
6.4 Powerstroke- No experience with them in a truck. In a bus (maxxforce 7) the injectors stick open, dpf problems.
6.7 Powerstroke- To new to tell
I'm not bashing, That's just my opinion because of past experiences.

Oh one more thing if you're considering a new truck: The Cummins is the only one in the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks that meets current diesel emissions standards without the need for a DEF urea injection system, an additional and costly fluid that must be refilled on a regular basis in the new Ford and Chevy diesels that's injected into the exhaust system to clean up their emissions.

Yes there has been revisions of the CTD over the years. No question. However the base block has been the same since 91, earlier versions had heavier bottom skirting. And to point, the 5.9L displacement has not changed until 2007.5 and furthermore, the same engine manufacturer since the get go..
Blinded by the C, maybe I am. But to say they are all the same reliability wise is really not true.

I know where you're coming from. I'm just pointing out how these threads always point out the issues from the others, but downplay or never mention things like the KDP, VP-44, 53 blocks, 03-04 injectors, regen issues, variable turbo issues.
Every brand has it's lovers and haters, I know a guy with an 03 6.0 he's had since new and won't trade up because it's been such a reliable work horse for him. You're not gonna convince him that 6.0's are junk.

KDP, VP44, 53 Block, auto transmissions in the early 92-93, 5th gear in NV4500, 03-04 injectors, 04-05 Valve seats, VGT issues and emissions controls with the 6.7 all valid. Can't argue any of that as I have dealt with the first and skirted around the last.
Hence about early 1998 the term BOMB was coined to deal with these issues. Better Off Modified Baby!! The rest is history. And maybe thats why I am little biased. The modifications to the CTD are unlimited really and have been for years. What did your 97 diesel look like on the dyno?

kdp == $5-$40 tab
Vp-44 =aftermarket lift pump
53=look before you buy or just dont mod it
injectors= run factory recommended fuel filters
turbo=dpf delete
1gen autos = $5 tps fix
5th gear easy fix, actually did that in a hotel parking lot when i was moving from TX to NC fortunately i had all my tools toward the back didnt even have to drop the transmission
all easy fixes
alot easier and cheaper fixes

yea tho maybe cheap fixes if you catch them in time or know to do what needs to be done.. The injectors on 3rd gen dont always last even if you run the recommended filters and all the dodge says is to run there filters which are crap and didnt start even getting good till about 05 or so. %th gear fix doesnt always work i have broken the fix twice and had the 4500 crater 6 times. So your list isnt accurate in real life, looks good on paper tho. The ctd is good but it aint no where near perfect like you seem to think.

HHHMMMM..... actually such a bad design that there are two companies that make a profitable living from selling conversion parts to get rid of the 6.0......
My Dodge may have a less than desirable interior, but nobody makes a retrofit kit to transplant a 6.0 Powerstroke into a Ram!!!!..
