Duramax to a Dodge
I am going to buy a used 2500=3500 truck. It will be a 2003 to 2009. I know there were changes in the engine in those years but can not locate what year the changes were made, example the different power and transmissions. Thank you for your help.

You are right. I now have a 2004 GMC 2500 and will buy a low mileage Cummins. I do not know how much power is lost if my purchase is a 2003 for fuel savings. The last Dodge owned by me was a 1998 24 valve and was used to pull a lighter 5th wheel. I will buy a 3.70 rear end. Thanks for any replies.

For 2003/4 you could get a 250hp/465lbft engine with an auto tranny or a 305hp/555lbft engine with a manual tranny. These consistently have the best fuel economy.
For the 04.5-2007 the 5.9 cummins was rated for 325/600 or 325/610. With either auto or manual.
For 2007.5 and up the 6.7 came out and am unsure about the power ratings but something like 350/650 and came with a 6 speed auto or manual tranny.
