I heard the sterling was going to make a dodge to run with the 450's and 550's and make a rollback? Has anyone heard that?

Here's the link to the dodge info:

http://www.dodge.com/en/2008/chassis_cab/

The page has a link to frame specs as well..

I would like to know why they down rate the 6.7 to 610 / 305 on the so called working mans truck?

The thing that woories me is these trucks are made to pull bigger and heavy loads?? So way the heck are they running the same transfer and tranny as 1ton??? That was one of the first things i had to put in my 05, A CLUTCH!! and i'm sure the 5500 will use the same clutch as 1tons as well... What a bunch of crap .. They just want to find a way for you to spend more money!!!-Chris

shouldnt be a problem if you ask me. its all about the way you drive it. you cant drive a medium duty class 5 truck the same way you drive a pickup with no weight on it.

A more accurate statement would be Dodge is building a Sterling . http://www.sterlingtrucks.com/Sterli...t/Support.html .
The Sterling is built in the same plant in Mexico that builds the 4500/5500 . All these trucks have a 26,000 lb. gvwr . That is adequate for a 21' rollback .

The probs i have had (rough estm on miles)

2005 Ram3500 4x4, G56, CTD, Dually.

(8k mi.) Inj Pump leaking interanally. Replace entire pump, (Warrenty covered aftered fighting for 3 months with them!!

(10k mi.) Cam senser. (Warrnty Covered)

(10k mi.) rear oil leak.(Warrnty Covered)

(11k mi.) AC leaking, (Warrnty Covered)

(13k mi) Clutch slipping!! (Warrnety not cover, South Bend installed)

(25k mi) Rear drive shaft u-joint (warrnety Covered)

(27k mi) AC not working, was told another leak had dye in it but could not find leak. More dye added

38k mi) Discovered AC condenser is out, But b/c over the 36k warrnety they did not want to cover, EVEN though i brought truck in 9k mi before warrenty was up b/c AC was not working!!! 2Months later fighting it, they covered it..

42k mi) Another rear D-shaft U-joint out!! (warrenty covered under the 70k PowerTrain..

NOW at 58k mi Both upper and lower Ball joints are out on pass and driver side. You guessed it, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRNETY!! b/c those are warable items!!

Dodge wants $1,345.00 to fix them, Local guy is going to do it for just under $1,200.. And using MOOG's lifetime replacement, and greese fittings!!

We DO work our trucks very hard, but there is a D-Max here that is doing GREAT!! (with 49k mi) I called the Cincinnati Steerling, and they have a 4500 there for a demo, i'm going down monday to test drive!!-Chris

That depends on the type of work the truck does...

Were talking 10K+ passes with loaded trailers here..

Lets give the power to the grocery getters and take it away form the workers...HMMM

well lets see, back in the day you used to get a Dodge CNT900 tandem axle tractor with what, a 230 cummins in it? So you had around 210-220 usable horsepower to get 80k moving. Its all about reliability - downtuning the motors results in longer life. You dont have to go 0-60 in 10 seconds in a class 5 truck.

this topic seems ot have died for some reason, so I thought Id give a more related example. Theres a 1974 Dodge W-600 (thats 4wd), class 6 truck I know of around my area that still runs. Its got a 318. Not a 318 detroit, a 318 gas job, the kind of thing that seems to be too small for a durango these days, much less a big class 6 truck. Funny to think how far we've come, aint it?

I sent Dodge an E-mail asking what the standard Rear Ratio was. The reply was, They could not tell me.
