do I smell french fries, or is that your truck?

Hey y'all,
I saw a CTD on ebay the other day that had a conversion kit on it to burn used cooking oil :P. Do any of you guys run this system. That fella talked it up pretty good. Just curious if your truck smells like McD's ;D.
Sincerely,
Chris

I don't know , but I guess he pulls through the drive-thru, orders his food, and tops off his cooking oil tank. He said he has to switch back to regular diesel before shut down to keep from clogging up the pipes. Probably has all the dogs chasing him too. :

They have been using this stuff for a while in Europe. I think they call it Ecodiesel. You can buy it at the pump at some gas stations. Haven't heard any mention of needing a conversion kit however so it might not be just strait cooking oil.

The description said something about a 100 gallon tank in the bed with some sort of filter system attached to it. The guy sticks the pick-up tube in the oil disposal tank, turns on the pump, and the filters screen out all the fries and nuggets . He starts it on diesel and the switches over going down the road. He said it doesn't pull as strong running on oil. Weird stuff. I hope it doesn't come down to that.<br>Chris

If you heat up Veggie oil up, the viscosity lowers and you CAN run it through any diesel. In fact, the Diesel engine was designed to run off of vegetable oil, only after Mr. Diesel died his friends got paid off by oil companies to modify it to run it off of fossil fuel. Quite the conspiracy, really.
SO, it is more than possible to convert it to run off of veggie, and I'm surprised that nobody on this site has done it yet. It is relativly cheap to do, and there are documented Dyno tests that show an increase of HP off of veggie. My Uncle converted his F250 to run off of it (any diesel works) and it runs great. Also, due to the great lubricating properties of veggie, the life expectency of your engine goes through the roof. The engines also run quieter, which is kind of sacriligious but oh well...
Racor filters are added to the systems to filter out any clots of the Waste Vegetable Oil. (WVO) Once filtered and heated, it burns fine.
The wonderful thing is that, after conversion, the truck still burns diesel just fine. Both systems are independant until the fuel reaches the engine.
Eco-Diesel or Bio Diesel is not WVO, it is specially processed Veggie, and is less econically viable at this point than WVO. WVO is free, you see, as most resteruants pay people to haul it away; you can get it from them no problem.
You can buy a conversion kit for cheap off of www.GREASEL.com.

P.S. Another great thing about running off of Veggie is that the smog emissions go down at least 75%. So you can use those Super Chips legally! Yaay!

P.S.S. Yes, the truck does smell like what ever oil you are burning, so it smells like fish (don't get fish oil) or frecnh fries or whatever. Don't burn peanut oil if your allergic, or you'll die. (If the person behind you is allergic and in a convertable YOUR SCREWED)

Now get out there and save the planet; Convert Those Trucks NOW!

Sounds neat. But the guy going through mid life crisis behind you in his convert is gonna be screwed, not you.

Well, we are running some engines on SVO (straight vegetable oil), but there are some facts to be considered.
First some of the waste products of burning the SVO that get into engine oil can lead to a polymerization of the engine oil.
Second the mechanism to separate the source of the warm up fuel must include the return lines.
Third the filtration and heating of the SVO are crucial to a: burn quality and b: fuel system life expectancy. Depending on the fuel system you have SVO that's heated to flow properly can be too hot for the seals etc-also some materials will be eaten away by hot SVO or by Biodiesel ( veggie oil methyl esther)

Personally I prefer to run my truck on biodiesel, and heat the house with SVO or used SVO since like this there is no need to carry around a second fuel system on the truck, and the SVO conversion of the oil heater in the house did cost less than 300 US$ including material and work.

Actually, biodiesel is made from soy beans. It is a renewable resource that the oil companies dont want us to us. The democrats voted the subsidy down because they dont believe the government should be giving money to farmers to subsidize anything. It would be great to be free from the need of middle east oil and get our troops back from that area!

Actually bio diesel can be a mixture of vegetable and animal fats, including used cooking oils. Rendering plants are getting on the bio diesel band wagon also. Tranist busses are running off 12% veg oil, 47% used fryer oil and 41% animal fats. Found this while searching the net. Your truck may be burning a mad cow...

I thought my truck was running a little better on that last tank.
