8 Lug is pretty handy in the throne room in case of TP runout.

haha Not really, its way to shiny. Need to stick the newspaper stuff, like Granger Catologs or the like. Or the old corn cobs if you got the two holer, two reds and white if you know what I mean.

Oh, my comment previously about spinners was metaphorically speaking. I was thinking of unpractical wheels for the real world in general.

Here is the thing you all need to remember....

Most of the diesel magazines are driven by their advertisers.Diesel Power is one of the worst and since its owned by the same people who lay out "Truckin" its no wonder why all you see is lifted rides.Truckin at one time was one of the flat out best truck magazines ever to grace the newsstands. However it has fallen from grace due to advertisers pressure and shows little or no real world rides only lifted, slammed or pimped up rides.

Another thing that is killing Diesel Power's mag is all the Left Coast Bias. You can not get them to come out to any show other than places where you will see shiney rides. In an email from them I was told that lifted trucks sell magazines and power does not.Our trucks are not necessarily shine orientated but are daily drivers and make good power but in their eyes we would not sell their magazines for them.

8-Lug is just another of Primemedia's knock-off magazines or a spin-off of DP.Its as bad or worse in my eyes and I would not buy it either.Diesel World's editor was as tough to convince that Eastern trucks can roll with the best, both in looks and in power. They did send us a photographer to us the year before last and he was again back for last fall show.Ta was the guy who got them to believe in the eastern rides and has gotten some guys shoots for articles.Other than the TDR magazine Diesel World is the only one I receive here and the rest can just be used for burning barrel material.

I will not support any magazine that looks down upon my club owners nor those who come to our clubs shows just because we may not be able to help their bottom line.Someday they, the other diesel rags, will understand that the average working mans truck is just as important as their pimp wagons, until that day they will never get my money.........Andy

Good write-up Andy! I personally like "Diesel World" and not only because Kevin Wilson (Editor) got my 1996 Dodge CTD in their magazine!

Kevin and all of his support staff are very nice people to talk with. They also seem pretty knowledgeable on our diesel trucks and aren't always looking for JUST a lifted truck with big tires! I also respect the fact that Kevin Wilson and or his Staff of reporters and photgraphers were at EVERY SINGLE diesel rally/event that I attended this past year including: Mopar at the Rock, Rockingham, N.C., Thunder In Indy, ATS Truckfest, Denver, Colorado, Scheid Diesel Rally, Terre Haute, Ind. and most recently even at Andy's Rally there in Pennsylvania!

My problem with "Diesel Power" is the fact that they just seem WAY to cozy with Gale Banks and his crew of merry men! I am sure it is because of the amount of advertising Banks does there, but I just get sick of him being the "authority" on everything diesel. I don't even read "8-Lug" because of what I said above and "Diesel Builder" is lousy as you guys already pointed out.

Just some info

i recently read that diesel power is owned by the same media company as HOTROD ... they had their "fastest diesel" in 'drag week' and noted the truck was run by their 'sister' publication, diesel power ...

Diesel Power is not a bad mag. Lots of banks ads but other then that not too bad. I do agree 8 lug is kind of ostentatious at times but they have some descent tech stuff from time to time. They had a pretty good write up on a glacier diesel fuel system install and a FS2500 bypass filter.

I saw Greg's truck in there too - no doubt more will be in their pages as this season unfolds.

I really like Diesel Tech...very nice large pictures, good print quality, and good write-ups. I enjoy the step-by-step how to's as well. I think the publication is quarterly though. Besides that the only other one I subscibe to is Diesel World, it's a decent read with some good articles and the right ratio of content to ads, plus it discusses diesel related material not just for trucks but the commodities & industry related stuff.

Diesel Power is one that I look at on the newsstand & if I like what I read in an issue I'll pick it up, otherwise is FULL of page after page of ads, nice to look at if you're searching the best deals on something but not for the articles, besides most of the ads are re-runs so if you pick up a few issues every now and again you get all the vendor info and stay relatively current on deals.

8-lug = Way to bling and not grass roots enough...read it once, was not impressed.

If I want to learn how to make some 30" fur-lined gold spinner rims, I'll read Truckin' and 8-Lug.
