diesel on icy roads
I have about 4-6 of snow in the yard... But now that I parked my truck in the driveway a few nights it has melted the snow a bit and turn it into ice. Even worse the tries have melted 4 pockets in the ice. Now if I park in that spot I could get stuck... I might have to fire up the Gasser Dodge and pull my diesel out... This doesn't sound good does it???

in south tx.. But i like your way of thinking!
hehehehe.. Anyways, when i was up in montana, some of the trucks there had really thick metal plates in the truck bed for weights. im talkin 3/8-5/8 in thick plates that covered the entire truck bed. The best truck we had up there, being no one had a diesel but a friend of mine who had the 5/8 plate in the back, was a 1995 300 inline six lil ford pickup truck. 4wd, five speed, and a 1/2 inch plate in the bed... good traction all around...Tx
Finally got a little snow today, but they are calling ofr it to get fairly heavy(for us) later this afternoon. Predicting 1-5 inches, so im hoping we get at least a little bit.

A mere 4" here
Where's the rest
I miss last years 17"
I gotta say I'm impressed with the way this truck handled the snow..Even better than my old 1500...I shoveled about 18" into the bed for weight, and off I went...I only drove in 2WD, cause I wanted to get a feel for the back end sliding...Didnt need 4-Lock at all...Only got loose once, and that was simply because I was pushing it too fast
Packed snow in town, no problem...A little slip but not much
I felt 45mph was max on the 4-lane. It was mostly clear, but had patches of snow and ice...Morons passing me left and right going 55-60 and probably more
I got loose on a 2 lane highway, accelerating out of a curve...About 25mph and felt the back end slipping....I had been cruising 25-30 before slowing for the curve...Just got into it too fast
Of course it just bulldozed over untouched snow like it was asphalt...No wheel slip, not even once
(Sorry to whoever owns that field
)
And to think I let you guys get me worried that this truck would be hard to drive

I live in Michigan, have a 2x4 posi, a little extra torque, and standard E rated uniroyal 245's all season radials, and the engine torque is bumped up a little.
Man, what a witch to drive on the ice and snow. Soft snow is usually not a problem, but when it gets packed down, the tires spin so darn easy. Even when starting off in 2nd gear, the tires will spin. Put it on a slight incline and forget it. Need a running start and hope for the best.
Sure would love a set of steel studded tires for the rear!
Anybody remember those?

It rained, sleeted, snowed, rained, then snowed some more tonight. Talk about fun- did a bunch of donuts and drove the truck sideways down some backroads. On the unplowed highway I couldn't get it over 35 before she got squirly. Road maintance in Va sux
Mines a rwd and I put 8 50 lbs bags of sand from home depot in the back- cost $3 a bag. Truck is easy to control when fishtailing with the longbed imo.
