Deisel as kerosene
 

I have seen posts that refer to heating oil as deisel with red dye added.

I have no intention of adding anything other than pump deisel to my truck, however...

I live in an area where kerosene is difficult to get. Can I use pump deisel in lieu of the kerosene for my kerosene heater?

Depends on the type of heater, use winter diesel in our "Herman Nelson" style heater all the time. Kerosene is usually lighter than most southern diesels or #2 but #1 winter is thinned and usually the same thing. Kereosene is also the same as Jet B available at most airports but at premium cost due to purity testing. PK

I think I will stick with the kerosene. I have to buy it in 5 gal. containers at Dixieline and use it to heat my garage office.

It would have been nice to be able to use the pumps instead...

Kerosene or stove oil as we refer to it at the pipeline termanal where I load at is #1 diesel.We sell it as stove oil for heating or blend it with #2 diesel to winterize on road diesel. The dyed diesel can be high sulpher or low sulpher dyed for off road use only. The dye is for tax exempt purposes. If you burn #2 on road diesel in your kerosene heater it will run for awhile but then clog up and smoke real bad before quiting altogether. Kerosene is more refined than #2 and there for has a higher flash point and burns hotter.
