I wouldn't even call it a rumor, I would classify it as wishful thinking on the part of Ford owners...

Whisfull thinking, That's what we'll call it.

I could just see that option on the build sheet (now that would be pretty cool) here sir, right over here is the dodge dealer, have a look around and come back to the ford side when your ready (see ya later pal)

All in all I'd do it to be honist. I love the suburbans, (not the C-5 size of the excursions) but I'd buy one, put a 4 inch lift on it some 33's and power it with a cummins, yeah that would be sweet.

its actually true, in f-550 (or maybe f-650) and bigger. you can get a p-stroke, cummins, or cat.

Derek is right, you can get one in the big trucks, but not in a SD.

Ford guys say all kinds of crap about the Cummins engine, Ford owns Cummins, Ford designed the Cummins, Ford can put in a Cummins if you order it, Ford is getting the Cummins next year... None of it is true.

It's the F-650 and larger where you can specify engine and transmission... for the purpose of this discussion, it's just more wishful thinking on the part of light duty Ford owners.

In the medium duty truck class F650 and up you always could get a cat, cummins , international (powerstroke) , and even a ford ( 6.6 or 7.8 ) diesel engines. Transmission choices also vary. but anything below that ( f550 and down) your stuck with the ever untrustable powerstroke.

Hey I might be wrong but I remember reading something about that Ford and Dodge had a agreement that Ford would not use the Cummins in their F250's & F-350's for 50 years. And if my memory is still good the 50 years is up soon. So you might just see Cummins in Fords SuperDutys.

currentlly the 5.9 can be found in ford f650,750,860....ford f600,700,800 ...freightliner rigs/buses FL60,70,80...smaller fire trucks as well......

ps....the DT444E and the 7.3 powerstroke as we know it is NOT the same thing...only the block is the same size....the DT444E is NOT molested by ford "wizardry" making it a reasonably solid motor

pss on another note im living in buffalo now and ive been seeing these odd delivery trucks with the blue oval on them and a flat front...bagde says 4.5 powerstroke!!!!....is this that new 4.5 PS V6 ive been hearing about?? its on the road??

I have never heard that... And why Dodge didn't start using the Cummins till 89, why would they have signed an agreement like that more tahtn 30 years before they used the engine?

Not saying you are wrong, but it sounds like an unban legend, told by Ford guys...

You are about 99% wrong. They have some differences, mainly programming and on ours the pwr steering pump is gear drivin off of hpop instead of belt driven. The injectors are the same as well as cam position sensor, ICP sensor, heck even the water pump will work on a psd, turbo is a little different not sure on specifics, pushrods, rockers, rods, pistons, crank i also know a guy running an IH cam in his truck with no ill effects, the heads are identical. Im running a brand new set of IH heads on my truck right now (cheaper than from ford by about 1/2). the main difference is hp ratings our 96 t444e is rated @ 175hp with an intercooler (total terd), my 96 psd was rated at 215 w/o an ic. My 96 and 97 psd's seem to be pretty solid engines, both pull better than our pos dodges with the cummings.....
