Chrysler didn't renew Cummins?

I just watched on the news that Chrysler decided not to use Cummins for their "next line of heavy duty trucks."

Anyone have any more information on this? It doesn't look like the Indiana plant will be resuming work soon.

Never mind, after a little more research, they have canceled the light duty Cummins, the 6.7 contract is still in place.

Too bad we won't get a light duty Cummins any time soon...

Cummins isn't stopping production of their light duty engines (V6 and V8). Apparently they're looking for another buyer and supposedly Nissan is seriously considering it.

Thats what I was thinking, Chrysler may have just missed out on a huge market share there, cause Cummins won't give them the chance again. As long as the 6.7 stays I'm happy.

You can bet Fiat will have their own engine in the light diesel.

Maybe I'm way out in left field, but I think the day is coming when you'll be able to order a variety of diesels in at least one ton trucks, just like you can in the larger class 6 and up trucks. Think of how many more Fords might be sold if the Cummins were available in them, so the incentive is there at least.

I think considering on how large the 1/2 ton market is compared to the 3/4 & 1 ton markets Chrysler really missed the boat. Imagine how many 1/2 tons would be sold with a smaller Cummins diesel getting way better MPG than the gassers. I guess we will find out when someone else brings it out.

As somebody mentioned earlier Fiat has it's own diesel engines, I can see an introduction of them on our vehicles very soon.
This is the only reason why I am happy they are together, Europe is way ahead of us with small economical diesel engines, and Fiat has a good line of light, medium and heavy duty motors.

Not using the little cummins in the 1/2 ton is another brilliant decision
I guess I should hope Toyota picks it up. At least thier is a dealer closer then Dodge.

I would have liked the Cummins, but those owners wouldn't be able to say six in a row.... v8=yuck.

I think Iveco is Fiat's diesel (engine) subsidiary. I am curious as to see what Fiat comes up with.

Actually Cummins is renegotiating the contract for the 5.6L with Chrysler.

I hope that's a reputable source because they're telling me what I want to hear! It's not like I'll be able to afford a 1/2 ton Dodge with a Cummins when they come out anyway. I don't know why i'm so excited about it. It would be nice to replace the wife's 7.3 Powerjoke though.
