Cat 3116
Anyone mod one? My buddy just bought a top kick with this motor and its guts less...he wants to turn it up to a safe amount that the transmission can hold, it is all mechanical but I know nothing about cats at all. What is their story?

Sorry man, not going happen. The C7 had higher HP. The only HIGH HP I know of on a 3116 was a twin set I overhauled in Alaska. They were factory rated at 450hp. They were cooled by seawater pumps and keal? coolers..The 3116 is all mechanical. C7 is electronic.. 3114/3116/3126. 3114 is a four popper. 3116/3126 are I 6's

Here is a link to some info that I supplied over on the dieselplace dealing with 3116's

They will not run HP for long. Just the nature of that engine design.

I've heard the C7's have decent HP, but they've had problems with injectors

Ouch... bad design, or other issues?

In response to the thread over on the dieselplace I believe the 3116 was a Mitsubishi engine. At least when I worked in the Cat house seems like all the parts we ordered came in Mitsubishi wrappers. I believe it was Mitsubishi, I know for a fact it was Japanese. Not the greatest engines when I was there nearly 10 years ago. 3208, now that was a piece of work. Can't tell how many of those and the 3204's I built. I could look into a basket of bolts and pick one out and tell ya where it went on a 3204, built a blue million of those things.
That's been years ago and all information has been purged from memory. [laugh] |

I'm not sure Rifleman. Seems like they were around for a long time though. Remember most of those parts boxes were labeled "Caterpillar".

You can adjust the fuel rate, it takes a 2mm allen wrench. I would post the link, but I'm not allowed. It's the Low Buck Fuel rate site if that helps. That's about all a 3116 can handle, they arent too durable.

I don't see anything on there against the rules, so...

I had it in my sig for a while, but the mods kept removing it. They said it's because I mention a couple "other" forums, it makes it an advertisement.
