I talked to Dodge this morning...directly with the warranty manager in western Canada about this. Interesting conversation.
No warranty whether its used or new if it comes from the USA.
He said that warranty would be intact on a vehicle inherited from an estate out of the USA only.
I asked about having a USA address and residence...the answer was no.
Once its registered in Canada, none of the USA information applies and the vehicle will come up with a full warranty restriction.

This to me is not true...partly as I had my truck [bought in the usa] into a dealer stateside, registered up here and got warranty. So perhaps you will get canned up here and not down there? Irregardless, I am looking into 3rd party warranty policies to see what is available.

My experience so far is I have warranty state side...have not yet attempted to get it here but the dealer here said as long as we put my US address and US plate/tag in, it 'should' be ok. Key word 'should'.
The warranty guy kept asking me for the VIN and my name...I politely said...forget it...I know what you want to do.

I do happen to have a commercial MN plate registered to this truck as well.
I think we have a gray area with regards to this.

Good friend of mine here said that the Canadian motor vehicle dealers assoc. is trying to get the pricing more aligned and pressuring the manufacturers to get with it.

I read an article over the wknd in the paper that had a bunch of lame excuses for the differences in pricing. One part in particular stuck out...It said that the Canadian market is accustomed to paying more. Yeah...but not no more with the way everything is looking more like a GLOBAL economy.

Not all manufacturers are declining warranty.

I feel for you Canadian DTR boys. If I was in the same position I'd be looking to save that money too. Scotty brings up a good point about third party warranties, might be worth looking into.

Go to hensonmotors.com and click on the specials. 2007 3500 mega, SLT, $36k, 3500 quad 4x4 slt $36k. They sell a lot to rural Texas, good prices. You could find a used, 3-4 years old, 50-100k, for $20k more or less.
Henson is 100 miles north of Houston. Plane ticket is cheap compared to $30 large. Lots of other good deals other places too.
Vote with your feet!
Good luck!

I was told today that there are warranties made for this kind of situation. The folks here that we bought the Jetta Diesel from have had a few customers bring Audi's up from the USA and they saved more then enough to justify a 3rd party warranty.
They will have all the info at the VW dealer for me on Sat.
Just make sure you google importing into Canada as it tells you all you need.
One of the most important parts is to fax your invoice and MSO or Title to the US side where you plan to leave for Canada...72 hrs in advance!
Then, if you buy certain vehicles, there is a Green Levy of either 1, 2 or 3K payable at the border. Trucks are exempt from that.

What a crock man. We're used to paying 40% more for the same truck??? I'd like to meet the idiot that said that. And it's not our gov't that's raking in all that extra dough ... it's Dodge. As a couple examples the Cummins option is $6100 US and $9245 here. yep, that's right. Leather seats $910 US and $1375 here. Tow mirrors $100 US and $150 here ... yep 50% ... and it's all like that. Pure Edit.
I was looking at a new truck again next fall but Dodge can b!Ow me if they don't get it together ... We're used to being ripped off??? ***
MBRP exhaust is made just around the corner from here and I can still buy it cheaper way down in Texas ... shipped back to Buffalo lol how is this possible? Oh that's right, we're used to being ripped off ... lol Shoot, we pay 50% more for our own oil. lol we're used to it sure, we're idiots. lol
now I'm laughing hysterically ... better go. lol lol

I wish there where more people UP HERE as outspoken as yourself and myself...but it seems like the norm is to be passive and quiet and pay.
Even the guy at Dodge tried to tell me some line about the markets are different and thats the reason for the price difference.
Plain and simple, the manufacturers grease the right palms, keep the prices out to lunch and hord the extra money with the exchange rate too.
I will know tomorrow about the warranty...even if its a few grand...I still saved 13K including the frame stretch on this new truck. And...had I waited another ten days, there was another 3K to be saved with the exchange and another rebate from Dodge down south.

I think not having warranty is going to be a non issue anyway.

I just bought a used 06Chev 3500 dually crew fully loaded today out of Illinois. I was going to pick up a Mega cab dually but dodge is the only one of the big 3 that won't tranfer your warranty to Canada. Figure i saved around $12000 compared to alberta pricing.

haha, guess I didn't disguise that one word well enuf ... sorry bout that, I tried
yep, I see the same thing here alot ... people seem to just shrug it off and pay whatever anyone asks ... STUPID ... PERIOD!!
I have to sharpen my pencil everytime I bid a job and in my world so does everyone else. I paid a fair price for my truck considering the exchange rate at the time though I was still ripped off. That was the excuse then ... the exchange rate ... now it's "we're used to it" LOL ... EDIT! haha
summit, good for you ... Dodge can take a long draw ... I'll switch back to a Chev too if that's the way they want to be ... the arrogance
scotty, for that kind of savings you'll have alot of warranty to pay for in cash.
No warranty for Canadians who are bright enough try live a better life ... not funny man.

You will also need English/French Airbag warning stickers that go on your sun visors... you can pull those from a junkyard for the inspection and toss them after.

I got my truck in Alabama for $23,000 with 10k on it... it was still a steal with the dollar being worth 0.80/US at the time (2003).

I had no problems with warranty.. had my VP44 + Valve body replaced at a dealer here in Toronto. No questions asked.
