Have you done anything to the 518 trans? I have one of those too. It's a 93 but only has 137k on it now. Just got it couple months ago from an old man who never pulled anything with it. Didn't even have a hitch on it till I got it. I am just curious how long an A518 can last if the engine is stock and with very little towing?

Looks like you're the Big Dog around these parts so far...can anybody top 415,000?

I've heard rumors of guys with over a million, but I've never personally heard it from the horses mouth.

That's impressive

Serial number dates my engine build date to 1987, so she's held together for a good many years. I'd like to get 500k out of the stock headgasket, but I'm running what sounds like an absurd amout of timing and 40psi every day, so you can place your bets on that one...All original down to the leaky valve cover gaskets when I got it at 350k (I'm the 3rd owner) a couple years ago. I replaced the IP last summer, but I think that faiilure was more due to my tinkering than anything else. Every trip I take I worry about the engine pulling the rest of the truck apart as it goes down the highway A recent 1000 mile trip yielded a hand calc 21.3 mpg. 500 miles empty (7300lbs) running 75-80 and 500 miles back with 2600 lbs in the bed running 70-75...the old mans' 97 f-150 can't seem to muster 16mpg downhill Long live the mighty 'B'!

Mopar2Ya has a first gen with 1,180,000.

My truck only has 310,000, but I don't get to drive it as much as I'd like.

Without being rebuilt??? If so, that's impressive!

Do we have a possible new Big Dog?

What's his secret???

I don't know, that's just what it says on his sig...

I personally know of one first-gen Cummins that went over 1 million that a neighbor once had, too. But I have no evidence of that one. (Funny thing was that his second Cummins went 5,000 miles before the shop installed a Fram oil filter and grenaded his engine... Karma. )
