Buying a Truck.. Help deciding Pls

So im thinking about getting another Truck.. I have a budget of 30K to work with. This is my question.. Im already planning on buying used but I dont know if I should buy a 24V truck '00 to 02 and spend the remaining 10K on a tranny, fuel and speed parts or should I buy a Common-rail 03 to 05 and upgrade over time??

Nothing sounds meaner than the 24V but I wouldn't trust the VP44 with all the failures I've heard about. You can't go wrong with the HPCR. It's a precision, high performance injection system that works very well.

Third-Gen, preferably '05 - '07 (5.9L). Very nice units overall, especialy with the G56 6-speed manual.

For 30K you could have a really loaded, low mile later 3rd gen. Resale value of large trucks has really taken a beating lately.

If you go G56, you might plan on a chunk of change going to South Bend sooner or later...

Yeah.. im looking for a truck to replace my '06.. I dont want a 6.7 because i cant hot rod it. Otherwise I would be looking at a new one. I have been searching for a 3rd gen for a decent price so i can at least afford to pick up a goerend tranny. Im going auto cuz I wanna drag race it some but I appreciate all the suggestions.. keep em coming..
