Bed Tank?
Bed Tank?
I recentally bought one and have yet to pick it up. Someone told me(truck driver friend) That I will need to Have a flamable sticker on it like the big rigs do. Is this true?
As far as I know, it shouldnt need one, unless it is over 120 gallons. I use one in my rv hauler and i was told it couldnt be over 119 gallons for me to legally enter the USA from Canada. But I am from Canada and your laws may be different, Up here in canada, you have to be under 100 Canadian gallons, which is about 120 US gallons, So i would have to say No you dont need a sticker
I am not sure about other states but here in WA that last post is right on the Money. ANything over 119 gallons in any one container and you have to have a HazMat, Placards, bill of lading etc...etc... Though you can carry as many 55 gallon drums as you want in one shot.
I checked with the approriate agencies about this because I wanted to haul 200 gallons at a time from the Indian rez back to my place. Fuel on the rez is sometimes .40 or more a gallon less than in town.
Also make sure that the tank you bought is DOT approved. Not all of them are. As far as I can tell the only difference is the price. Some are sold that are for offroad/farm use only. Also keep in mind it is technically illegal to run a pump over the side of your bed and fill you own rig. You can fill your tractor or your buddies rig, but not yours. If your going to have and Aux tank in the bed it is best to either install a tank switch or gravity feed into your existing tank.

Thats the same answer I got when I was looking into moving diesel in 55gal drums. Under one hundered and something gals you need nothing. I was told you could fill a semi with 55gal drums of diesel and not need any placards. And that comes from someone whos worked for years in truck and has alot of hazmat experience. Why is it Illegal to fill you truck with the inbed tank? I have considered running a line and pump to transfer fuel. Not sure on how this tank will work out yet and how it will be used for me.
