Anyone like the DT466

I was looking at a toterhome with a DT466. I was wondering if there is any problems with these motors? Is there any preformance mods you can do to them too.

Great engine.
I know of a module that ads 30-70HP for not too much money.

If you want more info PM me

The DT466 is the best medium duty truck engine out there, bar none. The company I work for recently got rid of an '85 S-1900 with a DT466. The truck had over 400k in local pickup & delivery service, original engine. The cab was rotting out and we lost count of transmissions, it started jumping out of 3rd again so off it went.

It is a very

reliable engine... i have a friend that has a lil cattle hauler with that engine and over 700K on it... still runs well.. with basic maintainance... and a manny tranny, seven speeds.. It is the only international engine that has a rep like our cummins do.

Tx

Very, very reliable engine. The lower-output models could literally last a lifetime as they are rather underworked. As with anything else, make sure of it's history, even the best engine can be a real sore point if it's not been taken care of.

Somewhere out there, a person took a DT 466E and put it under the hood of his Pre-99 (old style) F-350!! Can't really imagine that he gained much given the much higher weight verses his 7.3 PSD, but that thing should run a million miles - if you can stand such a rough-riding pickup!

I sell those in moving trucks and the only problems we had back in 2000 was with the faulty fuel transfer tube. It seems the truck would pull from one tank but fuel was not pulled from the second to empty them both at the same time. The result was that at about 1/2 tank showing on the guage the truck would run out of fuel with the second tank still full. It costs a good bit of $$$ for the roadside mechanic to come out and prime the system and dump some fuel in. I don't think Intl ever came up with a cure for the older trucks but the new style has had no issues with that problem....

The Moving van I rented from Penske had one in it. Ran great but was a dog. And the transmission kept overheating.

But I think I was grossing well over the 26k the truck was rated for.

26ft box Packed full as could be and an 8k# boat behind that packed full also.
