Question Anybody BOMBed a Yanmar?

So I've got this half a p-pump in my garden tractor and I've found the high and low idle stops and what I believe to be some kind of fuel rate increase control. When I thread it out, the engine will run up to max revs faster with a little smoke...Since it's HYDRO and linked to the brakes, I can't load it with the brakes to see if she smokes, but if I'm mowin up hill at about 1/3 throttle and run up to WFO, she definitely leaves a healthy haze now So, anybody ever tear into one of these little devils? BTW, it's a 1989 430 lawn and garden tractor w/a Yanmar 3cyl diesel---3400 hours strong!

I think all you can do without major changes is to free up the breathing on both the intake and exhaust sides and then crank up the fuel till she smokes a little. Turn up the RPM a little too. Beyond that, and you may not notice much with those changes, you'd have to lower the compression and add a turbo. Then turn the fuel WAY up. Short of going the turbo route I don't think you'll see much change except visible smoke, and that doesn't cut the grass. But it does allow you to waste fuel.

go over to (weekendfreedommachines.org),there is a guy on there that knows how to turn the pump up(mark k.),i have also heard of a guy putting a turbo on an IH cub cadet.he used one off a yamaha 650 motorcycle, but it doesn't spool up very good, sounds like it's too big for the yanmar,i actually thought about the same thing for my 430(awesome lawn tractors i might add)do you have a 3pt on that baby??i also have a 332,don't know about you but my town neighbors give me the strangest looks when i'm out mowing with the BIG DIESEL

It would be really cool to hear the turbo spool up when you engage the mower deck!
You gotta put a turbo on that thing!

Weekend fredom machines is an awesome site. You can find me over there from time to time as Greg_S. The 430 hasn't given me much trouble considering it's former life as part of a used and abused landscaping fleet I got it for 2300 with a full hydraulic blade and 60'' deck, so I couldn't turn it down No 3-point...yet. It really doesn't need more power, I was just buttoning up some oil seepage on that side of the engine and got to fiddling. Even coming up the front hill at full song with thick grass, it doesn't even feel like the governor is adding much fuel. The only time I bogged it even a little bit was when I was pushing wet snow in hi-range up hill, but even then she just dug in and chugged along. I wonder what the torque rating is?

I tell ya, it wouldn't take much to put a stack on it, either. BUT, this one is staying at mom's place 'cause she needs something reliable, and that's really why I got it. The terrain around here is not throw-a-way tractor, ahem, lawnmower friendly. I've got my Super A at the property w/a 60'' belly mower and a stack, it just runs on the wrong fuel

I've been thinking about this kind of thing too. I have a 953cc Daihatsu 3cyl. diesel in a Kawasaki Mule and I want to find a way to get more power out of it. It is rated at 26-27 horsepower. I have already open up the exhaust some with a tractor muffler. I would like to open up the intake, but that is going to take some fabrication. I know Daihatsu makes a turbocharged version of this motor rated at 34hp., but I can't find out any info on it (turbo size, compression ratio). I was think of a Garrett T3, but I think that is too big.
