General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Any more news on the upcoming light-duty Ford diesel?

Anyone know? I saw the thread from a week or two ago, just wondering if anyone has heard anything else.

Dunno but a landscaper friend of mine has a new F150 4x4 as his truck and he says he gets 240 to 250 miles to a tank of fuel. He likes the truck but hates the fuel economy. We talked yesterday about a V6 diesel and he said he would buy one in a minute. BTW he has 6 powerstrokes on his fleet ('03 and '04) and has not had any problems with any of them. Go figure.

I guess he's lucky. My brother has had 3 PSD's since 1995.

1 - 1996 PSD - Awesome truck no problems
2 - 2003 PSD - Ok looking truck. Was bought back because of idling problems that could not be fixed by Ford.
3 - 2004 PSD - Ok looking truck. Brother is working on Ford buying this one back as well. Surges all the time at idle, actually to the point of being dangerous. Pilot injection turned off, reflashes not fixing it.

Sounds like quality hasn't been job 1 for quite a while. As for fit and finish, and the Ford being a better over all truck as some say? I say no way. I've owned a lot of Ford vehicles in my lifetime, and none of them has ever matched the fit and finish of the 04 ram.

I've never owned a Dodge Ram other than this truck. Only Fords. The reason I bought the Ram was because of the problems with the '03 Powerstrokes. Our Powerstroke now is fine. (new engine before I bought it-first owner got cold feet) Some guys are more fussy. All of Bill's trucks are driven by employees and I really don't think they care if the idle rolls twice at the drive-through. They pull landscape trailers all the time usually 6 days a week. As far as fit and finish I wouldn't put one ahead of the other IMO. Many little trinkets have broken on the Ram. (ashtray hinge broken, tilt lever fell off, coathooks on the back, glovebox won't stay shut) Can't be bothered to bring it back to the dealer. I just hope that this thing will be more or less in one piece in 300k. Only time will tell.. Now a Cummins in a F250 Superduty....
