All Ford 6.4 tailpipe flames discussion goes here

Maybe this was well known before but it's the first "official" word I've seen of this kind:

I wonder how Navistar will cooperate with Ford up until the new Ford designed diesel comes out? I bet if they were hesistant to honor warranty claims and that kind of stuff before with their 6.0L, it's going to get far worse.

Wow who would want to be the guinea pig for a completely Ford designed engine?

Now I don't work in the automotive industry, but if it was me, I would already have the CEO of Caterpillar at my house and at least talking about it. Unless my design team had a really convincing concept ready to roll.

That comment in the article about the Volvo engines was interesting.... Why not look in house first? I agree I wouldn't want to be the first to drive a Ford designed diesel though....

You couldn't GIVE me an International truck or engine for that matter !!!! Company I used to work for ordered 10 brand new International concrete trucks and the fit & finish was the worst I have ever seen not too mention A/C that would work for a week at a time ,interior falling apart and numerous other complaints . Every single truck had ISM Cummins under the hood ......... thank god for that .......the only part of the truck that was reliable !!!!
Maybe they should bring in the "urine ***** " and clean house because quality is pretty sad there these days !!!!

Ford had the absolute best truck out there for heavy duty use ..... all hail the mighty L9000 .......... then some idiot bean counter decided to put profits ahead of common sense !!

Those ole 9000's would put up with the abuse of hauling severely overweight loads day after day without any complaint and were absolutely bulletproof ........ I need a Kleenex now .

This post says it all:

1. That's the last thing you want to do, is rush engineering an engine for your premier work trucks where power and reliability is key

If they develop in house, they had better get in tight with New Holland...at least they have some diesel experience to fall back on...or does New Holland source their diesel engines as well? This can only end up badly for Ford. Diesel is a different world from gas. Notice that DC used a well-proven engine from a diesel engine company, even the 6.7 has been in use for some time.
