My 4BT has a blown head gasket, and I wanted to see about the parts before I order them. It looks like head bolts are the same in all 4BT up to '93. My engine serial number is 44491642, and manufacturing date is 06.12.1990. It's on my air compressor I need for my sandblasting and powdercoating business! Any and all input is welcome!

What exactly is your question? The head bolts should be reusable, their is a thread length gauge that comes with a oem cummins gasket kit. It can also be bought separately.

If a head bolt is within its specification how would it be any different than a new one? I think your overthinking this. When it comes to connecting rod bolts they are a one time use only, but your just wasting your dollars if your buying unneeded head bolts.

bought a set of head bolts for a 6BT. $55 is cheap insurance in my book.

I am about an hour straight north of Worthington up US hwy 59. I moved here after being in Wyoming for 10 years I moved there for college and didn't come home.

If you found bolts for $55 what brand are they?

I just went through this on my truck, make sure you torque them correctly,

I have the instructions straight from Cummins in the sticky.

torqued them to factory spec, finishing with 90 degree turn. runs quieter and smoother now after valve job, and adjusting valves.
