2000 Ford 7.3

my brother-in-law just bought a used 7.3 2000 Ford. I dont know a whole bunch about the 7.3s in this year. Was this a good year to buy? Was there any problems with the 2000 7.3s??? I cant wait untill it goes to the shop to get fixed(he hates Dodge)

I shouldn't see too much shop time for the motor, especially if it is left stock. I had a 2001 7.3 powerstroke. The motor was pretty tough. The clutch (3x), starter (2x), and interior ( parking brake release broke constantly, and accel pedal fell off alot) all fell apart tho. The motor felt sluggish thru the peddle (it was a 6 spd too), but dependablility from the motor was good.

Those are good dependable trucks. The 7.3 is what built Ford's Reputation with Diesel trucks, then they threw it all away with the 6.0 liter. The auto's held up well, engines ran 250-300k with little or no issues. The one down side, They are loud.

I would take a 7.3 any day over the newer Fords they have out now. I had a 95 7.3 and beat the living heck out of it. It was a great truck.

I owned a 2000 F250 before this Dodge....175000 miles and never in the shop
The only reason I'm not still driving it is because the transmission was about to let go. I had a few mods on it and it ran great, but nothing like my Dodge.

Talking

My kid has a 99 SD with the 7.3. Aside from all the ribbing we give one another it has been a fairly good truck for him. He got a goo deal on it so I could not talk him up to a CTD. My Cummins will still pull him around the neighborhood with ease.

My first new pickup was an '01 F-350 7.3L PSD with the auto.

Kinda sluggish, but it was reliable and got decent fuel economy. Traded it in for my '03 (which is a better truck, btw).

Had a 93 7.3 Crew Cab Dually, 4:10 rear, IDI. Added a Banks Stinger to it. 8 psi boost. Ran Great. Sold it to a Welder to make a Rig out of it. 168,000 when I sold it. Has 325K on it now. No real engine problems, other than Glow Plugs. Its on its 4th E4OD Tranny.

At work they have a 99 450 and its on the 3rd motor at a 139000 and its hasn't had one easy mile on it but I have heard that a 02 ford with the 7.3 is the best because its the last year of it.
