#2 Parts Washer Fluid

What do y'all think about using diesel instead of parts washer fluid?

I went to buy 30 gallons for the shop today and nearly fell over at how high it's gotten. If I use #2 it'll only cost $70 instead of well over $200.

The flashpoint is about the same (I looked them up), and I think the diesel would even take longer to evaporate.

we used to use kerosene.

We used Mineral Sprits at my last job. Once I clear a spot for mine I'll have too find something. The place I'm at now has a nice washer from saftey clean with their solvent. One guy at the last job used Sump Jet-A for soaking stuff.

I can't think of anything cheaper than #2 to run through the parts washer, except for unleaded, but I don't want to earn a Darwin Award.

It's about an 80 gallon SS tank that I like to keep 30 gallons in, but it's getting low and nasty.

DIDDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

AND STILL DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could try #2 but my guess is that you might carry the stink around with you for a day or so.......................................

Well, I got the idea because the parts washer fluid stinks so much. [yuk]

[laugh] Don't laugh too hard but for the stink I have found that baby wipes cuts the smell real well. When changing the fuel filter or adding fuel from my spare cans I sometimes get a little diesel on my hands and have found the baby wipes cut most if not all of the smell. I generally carry a container of them when traveling because they make clean up of my hands real fast, easy, and convenient. :D
