12v vs. 24v Years
 

Just wondering what years the 12v were in dodges, and when they started to put the 24v in them? Also is there any major difference between performance in them?

The 24 valve started in 98.5. So, there are 98 models with either engine. <br><br>The 24V has more get up and go, but it is noiser.<br><br>The 03s are 24V but are much quieter.<br><br>Dan

12V's were made from i think 89 to 93 in the 1st gens and 1994-1998 in the second gens (only until january of 1998) 1998.5 -2002 uses the 24V <br>The main difference in the 2 is the 12V has a mechanical bosch P7100 fuel pump where the 24V has a computer driven electric VP44 fuel pump<br>The mechanical pump of the 12V's is a very tough virtually bulletproof pump where as the electric 24V pump has some problems occasionally <br>another difference is the obvious one which is the head one has 4 valves per cylinder (24V) the other has 2 (12V)<br>Also there are some differences in the turbo and a few other minor things <br>It is generally known that a 12V is much cheaper to make big power with. Where it has some free mods you can do to turn up the pump without purchasing anything however the 24V although more expensive is generally easier with devices such as computer chips which make it pretty much plug and play (plug the chip in and then get to playing) you can also stack more than one chip on there to give big big power but these mods are fairly pricy <br>Both are great engines each with its own ups and downs however i prefer the 12V because of the trouble fre pump and more room for BOMBing (or mods but learn the word BOMB)<br>(Better Off Modified Baby!!)

stock, the 24valves do great on the top end fueling. the bottom end is a dog though...and that can be changed in 5 minutes on the 12valves ;D.<br><br>sorry DRecu ;)

The P-7100 pump is used on the 2nd gen 12 valve engines. First gen engines used a different injection pump.<br><br>Jerry

You UNDER valvers say what you want about us PROPERLY valved engines, but I'd take it over the option anyday. Besides, if you have the money, you can do a P-pump conversion on the 24 valve and be done with it. I prefer the plug and play capability of the 24 valve. That and the sound. IMO, a straight piped 12 valve doesn't sound anywhere near as nice as a straight piped 24 valve.

i don't notice any difference on the straight pipe ??? the 24v is a different beast. the 24v is a fly-by-wire truck. there's a delay on the 24 valves that i don't like. with the 12valve, you feel the pump doing its thing-manually. it's all preference really...as long as it's a cummins!

I like being able to work on the 12 valver under a shade tree. I would have to cut the tree down if I got 12 extra valves.<br><br>Jerry

I love my 99 just a little pricey to turn the power up. 98Rammer is right stock it's a dog on low end. (In Comparison with his truck) (12V) But I'm sure that can be fixed in about 5 min's if you have 5 bills!<br>Makes me wan't to mod!!! ;D<br><br>DRecu!
