Walmart, Sam's, Shell, Texaco - diesel quality
 

I've looked though this forum and haven't seen this question asked. Have any of you seen a difference in the quality of diesel purchased at Sam's Club, WalMart, Flying-J, versus majors such as Shell, Texaco, Chevron? I can usually save eight or ten cents a gallon at Sam's and WalMart, but don't want to use an inferior quality of diesel. Maybe it all comes from the same tank.

I buy most of my fuel at Walmart. Seems pretty good.

Wally world doesn't seem to have the smokw capabilities of shell[coffee] But next tank I will try BP's diesel. Around here, its all the same price

The thing I like about the Walmarts, etc... around here is that they turn over their fuel very quickly as compared to others, mostly likely due to price. I figure the higher the turn over the better chances of getting good fuel.

All of our local Wal-mart stations are selling B10 bio-diesel in this area. I fill up there all the time and like it.

I run Chevron pretty much all the time unless we are on the road with the 5th wheel then I run what I can find.

The fuel should be coming from whatever refinery is in the region. The only real difference between the fuels will be the additives, and if your adding your own, it shouldn't matter.

I personally prefer valero diesel, they have a refinery near me and I seem to do fairly well with their diesel. Consequently, I do not like Shell diesel in my region, seems to get few MPG's. Whenever I can I get Quiktrip diesel, made by Sunoco in Tulsa, this stuff seems to be best across the boards (price and mileage), that and I like supporting the local business.

So, it just buy the walmart diesel if its cheaper, put in some PS additive, or whatever your choice is, and you should be happy.

I would like to point out though, that the best mileage that I have ever gotten out of my truck was from a Shell station in Socorro NM, drove from Socorro to Ft. Collins averaging about 70mph till Denver, hit Denver traffic, drove about 80-85mph to Ft. Collins and got 24MPG, calculated by hand, and I still have yet to reconcile that in my head, the math just doesnt seem to work

Hey, thanks for the replies. I've been using some WalMart, and just wanted to be sure I wasn't causing some long-term damage that I wasn't aware of. I've been using some FP-60 diesel additive, but may check out some of the brands mentioned here.

Just to give you something to think about. Wal-Mart doesn't own a refinery. So ask your self where does there fuel come from...... They buy it from the cheapest supplier the can find to turn the highest profit. Now I know for a fact that although all refinerys claim there products better than the next refinery, all the fuels are about the same. How do I know this? I work for a Inland towing company, we haul bulk liquid cargo, lots and lots of fuel products. All the cargo that goes in our barges is tested/analized, quess what? All the deisel comes back the same as long as it's the same grade..... No matter who made it..... For the most part, #2 Diesel is #2 Diesel, some refinery might add a touch of this or that. "Additives" More debate, right????

Yep, as capt joe says, usually fuel all comes from your same local refinery. We have only one working one in the El Paso area. I'm sure they produce every ones fuel and it is just rebadged. If they don't buy iy locally they would need to truck it in some 5 & 1/2 hours from here.
