main issue is which cummins...

seems older diesels in general are more forgiving of what fuels it can run.

older mercedes 190D, 300TD, 240D are all famous for running veggie oils.

currently running 65%+ WMO, going higher % on purpose to find out at what point it makes any difference. so far my 12v starts and runs great. no difference other than it runs smoother and slightly stronger.

already purchased a spare set of backup injectors. will pick up a spare P7100/lift pump, if right deal comes along.

Every thing I've read is to not use modern ATF as it will play heck with the injectors. But then its your engine and not mine so run what you think is Ok or you have the $$ to fix if some things screws up when trying out something new.

that's not true... there's been feedback from several diesel owners, mostly early GM, Ford and a few early cummins that's ran ATF thousands of miles with zero problems. that's 10% to 100% ATF ran.. depending upon temps.

would agree there's no official publication that says it's ok to run ATF.

there's one CTD first gen owner that's ran WMO/ATF for 630k miles since new with no problems.

everything is a calculated risk. that's why I'm buying spare injection parts as they come up at good prices. just in case something does go wrong. I'm won't be down for long.

at $4+ gal for diesel, payoff is pretty quick for using waste oils. a main factor in all this is my ready access to a reliable free source of clean waste oils (my tenants). 30-50 gallons every two weeks. I've made a request that they not put anything but clean oil in storage drums.

what are the risks of running ATF or WMO in a more recent Cummins, like my '07 fer instance? Diesel fuel is going up a penny a day it seems, its sickening me and I want to drive my truck around as much as i used to, but the cost is killing me!

Do you think I could filter the motor oil through a 10 micron fuel filter before it goes into the tank? I bought a spin on filter adaptor for my portable fuel tank, and the filters are only a bit over 5 bucks, i gues the worst that can happen is plug the filter up right or should I setup an external oil filter and do it that way ?

here is my set-up: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=204552

i run 5 gallon batches at a time and put it in a 5 gallon gas can and pour in right before i fill up, if i can get a hold of more oil im gonna run a little higher mix. right now its close to 16% i'd like to try 25-30%. truck still runs great.

been running it for about 2 years now. I'm up to 15-20 gallons a fill up. But only have tried that much in the warmer months.

Hmmmmmmm how about a mixture all in the same drum.....
Engine oil, Universal tractor hydraulic oil with a little 90wt.
It's all settling out in a 250 gallon waste oil receptacle.

I have a 1st gen (140k) and a 2nd gen 12v (215k).

Hmmmmmmm

Sure would save cash but I don't want to hurt either engine.

I have run it as high as 60-70% in a GM truck, I have not tried it in my Dodge because the vp44's fail if you look at them wrong. I know it won't hurt the engine, but the vp44 scares me.

I'll try it in mine, but I want to wait til the warranty is up. I have access to all the WMO I want.

Something no one has brought up yet is the increased soot level in the oil.
Be sure to change your oil and filter often enough.

And put the old oil in the fuel tank.
