Question For The Used Engine Oil Burners

I have been filtering plain old used engine oil and mixing it in my fuel at the rate of one to twenty.

Can used "fully Synthetic" oil also be burned in the engine as fuel??

I have access to a vast supply of clean used oil that may have a percentage of synthetic dumped in it.

Thanks.

From what i gather and have been told the synthetic oil doesn't burn too well.

I would think that if most of it is regular oil you should be ok. I have ran small amounts of anti-freeze, trans-fluid, and who knows what else was in the pan through mine with no problems

I would be leary about running anti freeze through the system. That cost me pump, and injectors. When my fuel dealer put anti freeze in my above ground tank. Of course it was a mistake, so I was the one that got to foot that bill.

Folks I've talked to who have used synthetic say it smokes a lot.
That indicates to me that it passes though without fully burning.

I've run full synthetic Mobil-1 in my fuel at about a gallon per 30 gallon tankfull. It does smoke more but I figure that's because of the soot particles in it and not because it doesn't burn. Cummins says you can run as much as 5% used oil I believe. IMHO any added lubricity especially with a VE pump is a plus.

Thanks.

While we are on the subject, just how far can I go, mixing in this used oil??

I don't want to be a cloud of oil-smelling smoke; but, free fuel is free fuel.

Also, is there any way that I can determine the quality/cleanliness of several barrels of used oil that I can get for free??

The guy has a homemade oil-burner stove to heat his shop; but, the accumulation of used oil is outrunning his need for it; so, I figure he tries to keep it reasonably free of stuff that shouldn't be in there.

Thanks.

There have been a few posts in here that discussed various options and filtering methods for used motor oil...

From what you are describing it sounds like the only safe way to use the oil would be to filter it yourself first. Hope the links help...........CD

Thanks for all the replies.

I do intend to filter any oil that I plan to use.

Thanks.
