I here there's a new ultra low sulpher diesel fuel coming out in October 2006. I know the last time they introduced sulpher diesel, there was some fuel system issues like not enough lube in the fuel & some cummins pumps went out. Doe's anyone else have any info on this?

 

Other than the fuel being a lighter product and having fewer BTU's it should not be a problem if the published lubricity standards are met. Just look for a mileage decrease of about 17% in applications where the engine is really worked. The average guy that hauls nothing but a sheet of plywood now and again or his wife's plants will not see any real impact.

 

i was under the impression that it would improve cetane ratings thus mileage...just what ive heard elswhere....what the real deal ?

 

Don't we already have that on the west coast (california).???

All the pumps here have a sticker on the m that say ultra low sulfer fuel...

 

We are now getting ULSD (TxLED) in our area. Minimum cetane should be 46. Regular #2 diesel is 42.

46 Cetane would be a great improvement over the 40 Cetane stuff we get around here.

BTW, 40 Cetane is the minimum rating to be condsidered On-Road Diesel Fuel.

 

Here in San Diego,the only company selling ULSD that I can see is ARCO. Everone else's pump says something about gasoline content! I'm looking at ordering a quantity of Standyne. Anybody got a contact in San Diego or hereabouts as I think shipping costs would be expensive? Thanks

 

Check your local Yellow Pages for Diesel Injection shops in your area.
Or go to www.stanadyne.com and look for your closest supplier.
I used to order my Stanadyne too.
Then I found out I could get a 5 gallon pail of Stanadyne PF for ~$140 from a Diesel Injection shop about 5 miles from my house.
Let THEM pay for shipping.......

 

Shovel chack out the Wilco station. I bought 45 cetane there a couple months ago.

 

Where is that located?
Don't remember seeing a Wilco station around here.

 

You may not have them over there at the coast but there are several of them in the Roanoke area. I think I saw them last time I was in Norfolk. I think they may be merging with Hess stations. Wilco has a white sign with blue lettering with some red and hess's are green. The merged stations have the green signs and say wilco on the bottom. Tend to have cheaper fuel than the average stations.

 

I learned something interesting about the new ULSD a few days ago. I went and visited an old boss of mine at an oil and fuel company i worked at before. We got to talking about ULSD and he had a 1 qt bottle on a desk in his office. It looks like water with a little color to it, i asked him about it and he said its pretty much like kerosene and that they aren't too excited about selling this stuff to fuel stations and other companies. I also have a friend that works for a pipeline company here by me as an operator and he has gotten a few loads of of ULSD through their pipeline and said the same thing as my old boss and that its almost like kerosene. After seeing and hearing about what they had to say i'm definately gonna be running a little more additive in my tank

Showing my ignorance here, but is the cetane rating the level of lubricity?

 

Cetane is a measurement of the ignition quality for the fuel.

here in CA Arco is the only one I know of so far, I usually don't fuel up there anyway, normally Circle Six or other truck stops. And yes, the sticker on the pump at Arco caught me off guard. I'm not AS worried about it in my P-pump as I am about my dad's '00. Looks like stanadyne and the like will be selling more addatives.
